damkianna: A cap of Ikki from The Legend of Korra. (Dance like the wind!)
November was all NANO NANO NANO, and now we've flopped into December and I've swapped to YULETIDE YULETIDE YULETIDE. :D :D :D

I'm THISCLOSE to completing my totally amazing assignment, woooooo, which will hopefully make me feel less guilty about somehow already having TWO GIFTS??? One Madness, one main collection, and tentative present-shaking indicates I am YET AGAIN going to have an amazing Yuletide.

I CAN ONLY HOPE MY RECIP WILL FEEL THE SAME WAY /o\

But as my brain's being eaten by bears, I haven't had much left for actual canon consumption lately. I've been hugely enjoying Lucifer and Elementary; tentatively still watching Blindspot, though it's starting to feel a little bit like the wheels are coming off; and mostly just mocking Timeless, which is trying a lot of things but IMO isn't really succeeding at them. (I wouldn't really care how bad the episode plots were if I loved the characters, but that show is seriously not managing to convince me that its main characters are a team or even friends. I WANT TO BELIEVE. THIS IS NOT A HARD SELL. And yet.)

However! I did end up going to see Moana, twice, and LOVED IT. (Spoilers, ofc.) )
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (Look at this place.)
I feel like I looked away, and then looked back, and ... September's almost over? I haven't posted in months?! THE YULETIDE LETTERS POST IS UP?!? How does this keep happening? *shakes fist*

A (relatively) brief survey of things I've enjoyed since FEBRUARY, wtf:

Batman v Superman. I don't know either. )

Ghostbusters! :D )

Star Trek: Beyond! )

WYNONNA EARP. )

S2 of Dark Matter! (Spoilers.) )

Other than that, still watching Major Crimes and still so happy with it that I have nothing to say about it. Slowly working my way through Miss Fisher and enjoying it so far. Lucifer's just started up again—I watched S1 and enjoyed it a lot, but I felt the same way about Sleepy Hollow, so we'll just see how S2 goes. And ... that's all that springs to mind, though I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

As for real life? ... I can't believe there's anyone left who's undecided about the presidential election, and that's about all I want to say about that. There are times when I love living in a safe blue state, and there are times when it makes me feel incredibly helpless.
damkianna: A cap of Padme Amidala from Star Wars, with accompanying text: "Queen". (Queen.)
All my regular TV shows are basically pleasing me and so I've got basically nothing to say about them. [personal profile] idriya and I are working our way through Fringe, via Netflix, and also through Blindspot, but so far I don't have much to say about those either except OLIVIA and ASTRID and SIF, yay. So instead I guess I'll talk about a) movies and b) shows that are dead or else I have problems with them. Whee! These are in order from "least to say" to "most to say", and are cut for spoilers.

Man from UNCLE (the movie). )

Quantico (TV). )

Strange Empire (TV). )

And, of course, STAR WARS: TFA. )

Man, I should chop that up and post it to tumblr as meta. It would be more content than I've managed to generate over there in years. :D

Also, there was this AO3 meme that was going around ... oh, before Christmas sometime, I'm sure—anyway, I copied it into the document where I draft posts, and now that Yuletide reveals are well behind us, I've finally filled it out!

These stats include anonymous works and do not include vids. )
damkianna: A cap of Lin from The Legend of Korra, on the arena roof. (That lady is my hero.)
My media experiences are piling up again, and if I don't post about them, I'd never post about anything! SO.

I realized that despite having had a long post-mortem with [personal profile] idriya IRL, I never actually said anything about the end of Sleepy Hollow's second season. Spoilers and ambivalence below the cut, if anyone still cares. )

All caught up on Forever, and now that it's probably canceled, why not post about it? )

I'm much less at peace with the probable cancellation of Battle Creek. )

I think that's just about everything we're watching on TV right now (except The Flash, but I never have much to say about The Flash. Or Elementary, but for the opposite reason). Which means I can move on to the reason I was actually prompted to make this post: we went to see Mad Max yesterday evening. Spoilers, obvs. )

And now I should actually do some work! (Oh, and I suppose I should say: outlines for Book Three of ItO now perhaps three-quarters wrangled, and I'm about 5k into Chapter 1. God knows how long it'll be, but I'm working on it.)
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra, through lines of fire. (Bending is the coolest.)
Catching up on everything I've seen since before Yuletide:

Tom Cruise, Sci-Fi Action Hero. Aka I ended up watching Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow back-to-back. )

And continuing the sci-fi, I also watched Guardians of the Galaxy. )

Not caught up on Sleepy Hollow; nothing to say about Major Crimes except oh, the Christmas episodes of Closerverse shows are SO RIDICULOUS AND DARLING. ♥ And the canon review I did for Yuletide has set off some kind of incredible Babylon 5 renaissance in my soul, just in time for [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love's 2015 mini-rewatch! (The mini-rewatch episode list is here, for any interested parties.) I actually just finished marathoning Crusade (oh, god, the sfx and HI DANIEL DAE KIM), but luckily they're going chronologically, so I'll have a chance to work my way back around before watching Well of Forever again.
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (I have to find my own path.)
Tell yourself you can take a week off from posting because you're traveling, and suddenly it's a month and a half later and your delinquency is only worsening. OOPS. I'm going to have to pick out one of those post-a-day meme thingies just to get back in the habit.

ANYWAY. Between my last meaningful post and today, I saw Maleficent like four times and completely fucking loved it. Spoilers, if anyone still cares. )

And then also Book 3 of Korra happened! I can't even imagine how annoying this whole airing schedule/swap-to-online mess was for anybody who'd been following along solely by watching Nickelodeon, and I really hope they aren't kidding about the show having had better viewing online anyway. I haven't posted about this season since the leak, so I suppose I might as well run through the whole thing at once, and divide it by feeling like always. (Feel free to read the cut whose tenor appeals most to you and not touch the other two!)

SQUEE! )

Meh. )

Aaaaaand bleh. )

Sleepy Hollow has also started! Yay I'm so happy. <3 I love everybody in this bar everything about this show, from the ridiculous "historical" shenanigans to the hugs, and everything in between. Cut for spoilers. ) The only thing I want for Halloween is more things for Katrina to do besides be menaced by the Nice Guyiest Nice Guy. She has PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS. GIVE HER THINGS TO DO ALREADY. (Somebody's written the AU where she's the one who woke up and is buddy cops with Abbie as her powers slowly recover, while Ichabod appears in her dreams giving her cryptic warnings—right? Right?)

And somewhere in there, the first book of ItO cracked 10k hits! I remember when I was posting happily about 500, I am SO THRILLED. (That is almost 3x the population of my hometown! I mean, I know hits != unique visitors. BUT STILL.)

I think that's everything I have feelings about; I haven't watched the new ep of SHIELD, or Guardians of the Galaxy. Back to working on treats for [community profile] femslashex!
damkianna: A cap of Bolin from The Legend of Korra, gesturing with Tenzin's hands. (Oh hey there.)
I swear, time is just SPRINTING past me these days ("on your left!").

... That I'm making that joke at all means, yes, after a long, awkward wait that involved a lot of eps of SHIELD piling up, my sister and I finally saw Cap 2, and then (mostly) caught up on SHIELD. Spoilery for both. )

We haven't watched 1.20 yet, but let's just say I'm not feeling any real urgent need to. Sigh.

Aside from that, I'm mostly just accumulating TV I have heard is good and then utterly failing to watch any of it, because: time. I did, however, manage to finish my [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen fic - early, even, which hardly ever happens, and is the absolute last thing I was expecting given the fandom involved. \o/ (Intimidating fandom, afraid to offer it but I did at the last minute, aaaaand MATCHED, because of course.) And someone posted a gift for me, which I have done my best to shake because that's how I roll and OMG SO EXCITED. :D :D :D :D :D I always dread signing up for exchanges because I never know what to ask for, but every time I get HOPELESSLY AWESOME GIFTS.

I wish I could read it already; but judging by these past couple months, it'll be next week before I know it, anyway.
damkianna: A cap of Jinora from The Legend of Korra. (I will make no such promises.)
In between being CONSUMED by the drama of Yuletide signups (my letter did not scare people away from Banlieue 13! FANNISH FISTPUMP), I have actually been sort of keeping up with TV.

Revolution 2.01 ) Sigh.

Sleepy Hollow 1.03-1.04 )

Agents of SHIELD 1.02-1.03 )

Korra, 2.04-2.06 ) Also I'd like the AU where Asami's company does in fact sell weapons and then she becomes Iron Man Lady. Yesterday. (If she doesn't hire Zhu Li away from Varrick to be her Pepper Potts at some point this season, I will cry.)

I also watched Warm Bodies the other day; I have no incisive commentary except that it took me until the balcony scene to really geddit (OMG THEIR NAMES I see what you did there), and I enjoyed everything except wee spoiler. ) But aside from that, it was weird and ridiculous and sweet and funny, and overall I enjoyed it. If you have to keep making paranormal romances about thin straight white people, movie industry, you could at least make them like this.

Next chapter of LttE: 14k. \o/
damkianna: A cap of Asami from The Legend of Korra. (All you need to do is show up.)
The more time I have, the less I use it for anything I should be using it for. /o\

A few days ago, I finally sat down and watched Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010). ) So I wish I could rec it for the ladies, but it's hard to when it's oblivious and the premise is so racefail.

Would it be weird to write like four stories for my [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen recip? Because: great exchange assignment, or GREATEST EXCHANGE ASSIGNMENT? I am SO EXCITE.
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (Thank you all for believing in me.)
I guess if you have to have your sleep constantly interrupted, it's best that it be constantly interrupted by kittens. If only I could nap like they do, I would be golden; but I'm a terrible napper, napping makes me grouchy and horrid.

Went to see Les Mis, which I am incapable of critiquing in any honest or objective manner; I don't actually like the story much and never have, and I cried the first time someone died and didn't stop until the end. I was recovering a bit by I don't know if this even counts as spoilers, but hey. ) At least I saw it with all my friends in one go, so I won't have to go to it again. Small blessings.

I think I'm caught up on TV - at least, the TV I don't have to download. (Download TV, I am always behind on, because I already rack up overage charges as it is. Damn you, Verizon.) OUaT is still making me happy, mostly. )

And! Finished a couple of books, at long last.

The Broken Crown (The Sun Sword, Book 1). )

And, suiting a completely different and yet partly the same portion of my tastes, The Stepsister Scheme (Jim Hines's Princess Series, Book 1). ) As I so often have to say, I couldn't list its objective merits, but I really enjoyed it, and I'm glad I have two more to read.

Because I can, I signed up for a [community profile] trope_bingo card! Here's hoping I can use it to finish some stuff I've already started. (Thank god I got a "forced to marry" square, I finally have a reason to finish the Yue/Zuko arranged marriage fic.)
damkianna: A cap of Jinora from The Legend of Korra. (I will make no such promises.)
I just cannot keep up!

Revolution 1.05; spoilers. )

The previews for two weeks out look so terrifyingly atrocious, my god. I'd ask how low this show can sink but I don't actually want to know.

OUaT, which somehow got left out of the roundup last time. Spoilers for all aired eps. )

Elementary! Spoilers for all aired eps. )

All told: I would like some more episodes please. :D

And I don't know how this happened, but The Three Musketeers (2011). ) I mean, I just. What. I loved it. HELP ME. Please don't watch this movie, you'll never respect me again.

I have a Google doc full of people's Yuletide and Festivid prompts that I might be able to fill as a treat, sorted by fandom, with the full text of the request and a link back to the DYW/DFV post each prompt came from. I ... I think I'm developing a system for this. \o/
damkianna: A cap of Ikki from The Legend of Korra, hopeful. (Can I have some lychee juice?)
Long time no post, but I'm caught up with nearly everything - and we even lost power a couple days ago, which means I finally had a reason to sit down and read an actual dead tree book for a little while. \o/

Major Crimes, squee and spoilers. ) /o\ I AM SO EASY FOR THIS SHOW. HELP.

Still watching allllll the WNBA games I can tape, and really enjoying it. I have absolutely no stake in any of the games except my tendency to root for the underdog, so I get all the joy of watching without the stress of being the fan of a single team.

Also, for no particular reason, I ended up with a copy of Delgo (2008). Spoilers, if anyone cares? )

I actually finished some stuff, and yet my fannish to-do list has only grown. UNFAIR. Also, Youtube Let's-Plays are the most addictive thing in the world. It's like watching people play Oregon Trail all through my fourth grade lunch period, times ten.
damkianna: A cap of Asami from The Legend of Korra, smirking. (You can't be afraid to mix it up.)
I was doing so well, and then the Olympics. (Women's basketball is my favorite, I have tremendous girlcrush feelings for Diana Taurasi.) Sigh.

But they're finally over, which means I'm actually a productive adult again. Sort of. And things have happened in the interim!

My birthday! )

And somewhere back there, I went to see The Amazing Spider-Man, or whatever it is - the new one. Spoilers! )

[personal profile] idriya and I also went to see The Bourne Legacy. Also spoilers. )

And then yesterday there was the Closer finale, and the pilot of Major Crimes. Spoilers again. ) HELP ME I CANNOT HAS OBJECTIVE OPINIONS.

And that's probably enough of a textwall for one post. Next chapter of LttE has cracked 15k with only a couple of sections left to go, so I swear to god it's coming. /o\

Also: my mother only recognized Taio Cruz during the Olympic closing ceremony because of that Korra vid I made. Win.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Hahahaoops. HI THERE JULY. WHEN DID YOU GET HERE.

First things first, tiny PSA: I had almost forgotten this was going to happen, but LJ finally migrated my Scrapbook over to the new system. I don't think my image links are broken yet, but I can only assume they will be soon? Which is the perfect incentive to get me to actually migrate everything to Photobucket - and maybe redo some of the formatting on ItO, while I'm at it - but if they do break before I finish that process, I'm sorry!

But also there have been things. Like the end of S2 of The Borgias. Spoilers. )

And for reasons that do not need exploring at this juncture, I've also watched GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra. Yes, really. )

And The Closer! Nothing really to say except YAY MARY MCDONNELL YAY; I actually need to rewatch the end of last season before I can come up with anything more in-depth.

I've been distracted most recently by my first tentative forays into vidding, which may or may not result in a very basic Borgias vid popping up here fairly soon. Much more importantly, I've now hit 10k on the next chapter of LttE! So it's still going to be really late, but I'm getting there. SO MANY THINGS ON MY LIST. :P
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
SO.

Korra S1 finale: spoilers everywhere, and maybe don't look if you loved it. ) I'm pretty definitely not going to stop watching, but I have metaphorically re-fortified my heart so as not to hang all my joys and hopes on Season 2.

Much more happily, we went to see Brave. Spoilers! ) ♥♥♥♥♥

And there was also Burn Notice, which I now find I have no deep thoughts about, but am enjoying even though they're still being a touch heavy-handed about Michael/Fi - not that it isn't warranted in some ways, but I could do with less of the slow-mo table-overturning, I don't need that to remember that Michael loves Fi. :P It is weird but amazing, having a casting spoiler ) around, and I'm glad they went for a Jesse episode. Reserving most other judgment until I have a better idea how they're going to handle this prison storyline.

Blew most of the weekend, so next chapter of LttE: 4.5k, not tremendous progress. But still progress!
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
So, wow, June. You are ... almost gone. D: Also it's going to be like a hundred degrees tomorrow, and that is barely even an exaggeration. BLEH.

There was graduation, finally, and my head did not explode; and then I took vacation and pretty much ignored EVERYTHING, and I went to Boston (and was lost for nearly three hours, but I wasn't driving) and Providence (lost for perhaps twenty minutes, and I was driving) and also a hot air balloon festival, and then I stayed up until six in the morning and almost didn't go to sleep again. (But then I gave in and did.)

And during aaaaaaall that time, things happened!

Like Snow White and the Huntsman! Spoilers, and, well, I sort of enjoyed it? ) I can't even tell anymore! Maybe I just shouldn't be allowed to talk about movies, I clearly have no useful critical faculties.

Books, on the other hand: I cannot turn my brain off. I am maybe a hundred pages into the second Bourne novel (I only just obtained the first), and holy crap that is some -ism bingo material right there. The writing is way too florid for my taste even if Robert Ludlum weren't apparently challenging himself to use the word "Oriental" every two pages and trying not to give any woman a name except Marie, and the way he describes Hong Kong and the residents thereof makes me want to just about weep from rage. I'm sure the movies have their issues, but I'm going to need to marathon them just to get the taste out of my mouth. Yikes.

Far less painfully, Korra! )

There was also Burn Notice in there somewhere, but this post is getting really long and there's another ep tomorrow, so I'll save that.

At long, long last, next chapter of LttE: 3.5k. I'm thinking this is going to be a long one.
damkianna: A cap of Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender. (I can have fun)
I have no idea what happened in OUaT last night, because I was off watching THE AVENGERS. (Spoilers, obvs.) )

And speaking of explosions, my latest Netflix was Battle: Los Angeles. I am easy for explosions okay. It was not good but it was also not bad, and there was Michelle Rodriguez shooting things, which was all I really wanted from it anyway. I am super tempted to treat it as something not unlike a prequel to Falling Skies; I would adore a post-movie fusion story about TSgt. Santos in Falling-Skiesverse. (... I may now be the only person in the world who ships Elena Santos/Anne Glass, but I shouldn't be because that would be awesome.)

Aside from that, the major thing on my plate (besides work, obvs.) is auction fic, which I will finish, dammit. I will.
damkianna: A cap of Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender. (You've lost this battle.)
It's flurried snow off-and-on a couple times this week - finally, March is acting like March again! \o/

But anyway. There was a weekend back there, which means there was also new OUaT! )

And, um, probably there's been another ep of Awake, but I haven't seen it. First two eps of Fairly Legal: check! How much do I love Kate and Lauren and Leo? SO MUCH, the end. ♥ I also feel like almost the only person on the internet who kind of wants to see John Carter (those books were a staple of my youth okay) and really really doesn't want to see The Hunger Games (I have spoiled myself extensively for those books and the story just does not seem like something I will ever enjoy). I guess this might be a little spoilery? ) Maybe when I'm older.

Next chapter of LttE: 8k and counting. I used to laugh to myself at the idea that one day every chapter of this would be at least 15k, but I don't anymore. /o\
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
[personal profile] idriya's birthday was this past Wednesday! Since I am an atrocious sibling, I did not do anything for her that was nearly as awesome as the boatload of A:tLA icons that she made me last year; but in spirit, I'm sure that shoving her through the first season of H2O: Mermaid Abbey Just Add Water totally counts. :D I used A:tLA to describe the character dynamics to her beforehand (come on, Emma and Rikki are totally Katara and Toph), and the mental image of Zuko snorkeling is a gift that never stops giving.

New Netflix: having returned Alice in Wonderland (which I adored except that the second-to-last-or-so scene brought reality down so hard in ways that I feel sure Disney was not even thinking about and, just, D: teeny spoiler cut ) Disney, just quit while you are slightly less far behind than you could be) I am now receiving the first season of Nikita! The old one, which I hope to get through in order to progress to the new one. I've watched it before, back when it used to show ... before Xena: WP? On ... Oxygen? Am I making this up? Anyway, it's been a while, and I'm sure a lot of it went waaaaaay over my head the first time through, so. We'll see how it goes.

Because Kiefer Sutherland, my mother watched the pilot of Touch last night, but I was mostly not paying attention; I am so so leery of the disability + special power formula. But also there is Gugu Mbatha-Raw (aka Martha Jones's older sister/Samantha Bloom from Undercovers), so perhaps I will give it a chance to win me over.
damkianna: A cap of Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender, with accompanying text: "Naive optimism." (Now we have to save him!)
I had a breakthrough while fiddling with my Book Three outline that just made the entire second half of that book and part of the next FALL PRECISELY INTO PLACE. \o/ I DRINK FROM THE KEG OF GLORY

The only thing I have to say to OUaT is: why do you keep hurting me. )

Also watched the pilot ep of "Awake". No particular comments; it seemed fine, the actors were all pretty good. I have no idea where they're going with the central plot, and it's not something that really grabs me, but I'm sure my mother will be sticking with it, and by proxy so will I.

And! Banlieue 13: Ultimatum. ) And the subtitles were weird and stupid again! So I have begun fansubbing it for myself, as one does. It'll be good for me, I haven't used French for anything in ages.
