damkianna: A cap of Katara and Korra from The Legend of Korra. (She's strong.)
Still not dead! This is somehow easier to talk about because it's now resolved: I got fired late last July, and was unemployed for quite a while before I suddenly got another job this June, and also moved to a new apartment with [personal profile] idriya. Which is great! But also stressful and kind of exhausting; I've been super-busy about half the summer, and the other half I've been aggressively not accomplishing anything, so as to keep my head from exploding.

I'm starting to ease back into the groove of the internet, though, at last, and what better way to do that than rewind all the way back to June and complain about Revolution? ) I'd wash my hands of this show except a) Charlie and b) Rachel, and also the new season can only get worse better more Revolutiony. 2.01 aired yesterday; I'll probably watch it this weekend.

I think there were also some episodes of OUaT. ) Kind of hard to believe it'll be back on Sunday.

I haven't been keeping up at all on Defiance, but I should now that I can marathon it - with some shows, marathoning just works better for me. As for new shows this fall: the first two episodes of Sleepy Hollow ), the pilot of Agents of SHIELD ).

Also new this fall: Korra, 2.01-2.03. ) Overall, I think I had better wait and see.

And: Yuletide already, what. Guess I'd better start reviewing the nominations spreadsheet and furiously drafting a preliminary letter!

And I know it's been a year (!!! THE GUILT), but at long last: the next chapter of Listen to the Earth is at 10k and counting.
damkianna: A cap of Korra and Asami from The Legend of Korra, about to race. (Let's do it.)
I realize that April must actually have happened, but I feel like I blinked at the end of March and now it's summer. D:

The most interesting thing first, so you do not have to scroll through the beast this post is going to become: Rarewomen 2013 recs! A:tLA, A:tLoK, The Avengers, Burn Notice, The Borgias, The Mummy, Push (2009). )

And I wrote i do not ask for any crown (A:tLA, Yangchen backstory) for none other than [personal profile] ambyr, which was the best assignment I could possibly have hoped for; I'm just sorry I couldn't manage more than one fic, because three out of four fandoms were ones I could have written for and all her prompts were beautiful. ♥

Onward to ALL THE TV:

Once Upon a Time, a bunch of eps. )

Revolution, 1.11-1.14 )

The Borgias, 3.01-3.03 )

I am also watching Vikings, but don't have much to add except that I find the pacing really, really odd, which I assume is a function of the History Channel writing it like - well, like a historical overview instead of like a TV show. I understand it, but it's still weird.

Also, Defiance, 1.01-1.02. )
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (Thank you all for believing in me.)
I guess if you have to have your sleep constantly interrupted, it's best that it be constantly interrupted by kittens. If only I could nap like they do, I would be golden; but I'm a terrible napper, napping makes me grouchy and horrid.

Went to see Les Mis, which I am incapable of critiquing in any honest or objective manner; I don't actually like the story much and never have, and I cried the first time someone died and didn't stop until the end. I was recovering a bit by I don't know if this even counts as spoilers, but hey. ) At least I saw it with all my friends in one go, so I won't have to go to it again. Small blessings.

I think I'm caught up on TV - at least, the TV I don't have to download. (Download TV, I am always behind on, because I already rack up overage charges as it is. Damn you, Verizon.) OUaT is still making me happy, mostly. )

And! Finished a couple of books, at long last.

The Broken Crown (The Sun Sword, Book 1). )

And, suiting a completely different and yet partly the same portion of my tastes, The Stepsister Scheme (Jim Hines's Princess Series, Book 1). ) As I so often have to say, I couldn't list its objective merits, but I really enjoyed it, and I'm glad I have two more to read.

Because I can, I signed up for a [community profile] trope_bingo card! Here's hoping I can use it to finish some stuff I've already started. (Thank god I got a "forced to marry" square, I finally have a reason to finish the Yue/Zuko arranged marriage fic.)
damkianna: A cap of Bolin from The Legend of Korra, gesturing with Tenzin's hands. (Oh hey there.)
Not dead, just recovering - Sandy was very kind to my area, we didn't even lose power. But there is a funny sort of tension in being a safe state on the border of a swing state, and for a bunch of weekends and the four days leading up to Tuesday (and on Tuesday itself) I was volunteering for Democrats in New Hampshire. (Who did extremely well, New Hampshire is now ruled by women.) I stayed up until 3 a.m. watching the results and then slept like a log; everyone in Florida and Ohio and wherever else who put up with those lines is my hero. And I would like to apologize to everybody on the canvassing list who got hit a zillion times - they don't tell volunteers whether a house has been hit before, it's not our fault!

But: other things happened besides voting, although they were just a bit less important.

OUaT, the last ... three episodes? /o\ )

And my favorite, Revolution. 1.06 and 1.07, spoilers everywhere. )

I'm not caught up on Elementary or Burn Notice, but I will have aaaaaaall the free time this weekend, and I'll probably only spend half of it panicking about my Yuletide fic. :D And NaNo! I put the bar code from last year somewhere, I'll have to dig that up, but so far it's going quite well.
damkianna: A cap of Jinora from The Legend of Korra. (I will make no such promises.)
I just cannot keep up!

Revolution 1.05; spoilers. )

The previews for two weeks out look so terrifyingly atrocious, my god. I'd ask how low this show can sink but I don't actually want to know.

OUaT, which somehow got left out of the roundup last time. Spoilers for all aired eps. )

Elementary! Spoilers for all aired eps. )

All told: I would like some more episodes please. :D

And I don't know how this happened, but The Three Musketeers (2011). ) I mean, I just. What. I loved it. HELP ME. Please don't watch this movie, you'll never respect me again.

I have a Google doc full of people's Yuletide and Festivid prompts that I might be able to fill as a treat, sorted by fandom, with the full text of the request and a link back to the DYW/DFV post each prompt came from. I ... I think I'm developing a system for this. \o/
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
So! I hear LJ's making some fairly major changes to Scrapbook that have caused some people to lose images, and will delete tags and restructure everything so as to remove sub-albums. I guess it's time I quit putting off moving everything to Photobucket and relinking. Oh, for DW imagehosting!

Far more importantly: I'm caught up on OUaT! Last week's ep ... )

... and this week's! )

Also, Korra! Both eps, spoilers. )

Also: the council guy totally had Padmé hair. If you look at his back during technically a spoiler ), it's in long locks separated with sets of rings, which is exactly how Padmé's hair is done when she's disguised as a fighter pilot at the start of ... Attack of the Clones, I think? I can't decide whether that was some kind of tiny shoutout or they just came up with it independently, but [personal profile] idriya spotted it and we had a good chuckle.

And I watched two more episodes of The Borgias. ) Aside from all the sex and death, these two episodes were like a party in my soul. (I don't consider sex and death spoilers for The Borgias; it's The Borgias.)

I have not-precisely-poison-ivy aaaaaaall over my hands. It's not as bad as two years ago, when I basically dunked my hands in calamine lotion every few hours and then covered myself with bandaids; but it's close. WHY ME.
damkianna: A cap of Kyoshi from Avatar: The Last Airbender, in the Avatar State. (I would not sit passively.)
All caught up on Korra, and waiting impatiently for another Saturday. No particular commentary yet, except for how terrible I am at handling fannish feelings in realtime. WHY CAN'T I WATCH THE WHOLE SEASON AT ONCE. OH RIGHT IT DOESN'T EXIST YET. DDDDDDDDDD: I need more to happen, I can't stand getting 22 minutes a week. **sob** Although spoilers! )

And, of course, there was OUaT! Spoilers everywhere. )

I'm not sure why, but I finished A Great and Terrible Beauty. (Spoilers.) ) That got super long! Point is: still not a rec. Bleh.

Re: movies, Johnny Depp as Tonto and character/casting spoilers for ST:RB:II ) force me to say unto Hollywood: what the fuck even are you doing. Just stop.

I got an attack of the spams today; it was on like the oldest entry in this entire journal, but in case they switch targets, sorry for any garbled URLs-and-porn that pops up in here! I'll do my best to clear it out quickly.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
OUaT! Besides YAY SHOW I MISSED YOU, I actually have only a few thoughts. Spoilery, of course. )

Ugh, so many maps still left to do. If I ever get around to some kind of appendix post for ItO, my appendices, they will block out the sun.

Then we will cite in the shade.

Also, I would like to stop being sick riiiiiight now. Now. Now? **sigh**
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Before I say anything else: OUaT! )

There was also some catching up on Awake that happened, which, I have a couple thoughts. ) All this comes with a grain of salt, of course, because I haven't been paying nearly as much attention to this show as to OUaT.

Next chapter of LttE: 9k. There is also auction fic, and I'm still trying to claw my way to the end of that Murphy/Luccio beast - it is so ridiculous, how did I end up with twenty-six thousand words of The Eagle + zombies? I don't even like zombies. /o\
damkianna: A cap of Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender. (You've lost this battle.)
It's flurried snow off-and-on a couple times this week - finally, March is acting like March again! \o/

But anyway. There was a weekend back there, which means there was also new OUaT! )

And, um, probably there's been another ep of Awake, but I haven't seen it. First two eps of Fairly Legal: check! How much do I love Kate and Lauren and Leo? SO MUCH, the end. ♥ I also feel like almost the only person on the internet who kind of wants to see John Carter (those books were a staple of my youth okay) and really really doesn't want to see The Hunger Games (I have spoiled myself extensively for those books and the story just does not seem like something I will ever enjoy). I guess this might be a little spoilery? ) Maybe when I'm older.

Next chapter of LttE: 8k and counting. I used to laugh to myself at the idea that one day every chapter of this would be at least 15k, but I don't anymore. /o\
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (KORRA OMG.)
Ugh ugh ugh. Not gone, just preoccupied. :P But not preoccupied enough to have not watched OUaT!

Last week ... )

... and this week. )

I also have Fairly Legal to catch up on, and I watched part of In Plain Sight but I am soooooo behind on that show that I cannot talk about anything in context. So all I have to say about that is MARY, YOU ARE SO GRUMPY AND AMAZING.

And, oh, yeah, KORRA IS COMING IN APRIL YESSSSSSSS. I almost am not sure I'll be able to watch it while it's airing; I only got to A:tLA after it was all over and I had been thoroughly spoiled, no hiatuses or anything. This is going to be SO STRESSFUL. (But I think we actually get Nickelodeon now, which we definitely did not before this year.)

The weather here is disgusting. It is fifty-seven degrees, in March, and that is a DROP from the revolting heights of yesterday. Ugh. March, look, it's okay to be yourself. You don't have to pretend to be June.
damkianna: A cap of Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender, with accompanying text: "Naive optimism." (Now we have to save him!)
I had a breakthrough while fiddling with my Book Three outline that just made the entire second half of that book and part of the next FALL PRECISELY INTO PLACE. \o/ I DRINK FROM THE KEG OF GLORY

The only thing I have to say to OUaT is: why do you keep hurting me. )

Also watched the pilot ep of "Awake". No particular comments; it seemed fine, the actors were all pretty good. I have no idea where they're going with the central plot, and it's not something that really grabs me, but I'm sure my mother will be sticking with it, and by proxy so will I.

And! Banlieue 13: Ultimatum. ) And the subtitles were weird and stupid again! So I have begun fansubbing it for myself, as one does. It'll be good for me, I haven't used French for anything in ages.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Whyyyyyyyy am I so awful at rating things without sex in them? /o\ My violence gauge is so much murkier than my sexytimes gauge, and I hardly ever think to rate by use of swearing - my Avatar Blue People fics are like one-third "fuck" by weight, and yet somehow they feel more G-rated to me than Kuei's mom does. ??? What even am I doing.

Anyway! No OUaT new this week, but I never said anything about last week's, so, in brief: OUaT, a week ago. )

And I also recently got my next Netflix movie: Banlieue 13. (Spoilers; mentions of sexual assault and drug use.) )

And, to make myself feel better:

Fannish to-do, updated. )
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Ugh, I am not even sick anymore, why am I tired? :P

OUaT (spoilers). )

In other news, I accidentally DEVOURED the first two seasons of H2O. I meant to make icons for [community profile] halfamoon, but I haven't even gotten through all my caps of the pilot (and already have dozens, but still!). /o\ Failed again! But my auction stories for [livejournal.com profile] seta_suzume and [livejournal.com profile] green_wing are coming along all right, so. At least there's that.

Fannish to-do list, cut for boring. )

why aren't there more hours in a daaaaaaaay
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
So where did that two weeks just go? D: Yikes. I am glad it is at least properly cold now; all that remains is for it to snow a little bit more than this incredibly pathetic inch-ish we have right now, and then it'll actually feel like December, instead of November being clingy. And oh, god, the Christmas presents I need to buy. DDDDDDDDDD:

But, okay, before I get distracted yet again: media exists! And sometimes I consume it! Spoilers abound.

Last week's Closer. )

Last week's R&I. )

This week's Once Upon a Time. )

I also skittered off my reading list once again and devoured The Magicians and Mrs. Quent. )

I think that's everything? My most recent Netflix is a Donald Strachey movie, which I have not yet watched but fully expect to like; and of course there is Yuletide. The odds are heavily against me finishing all three of the treats that I've started, but hope springs eternal. As does my verbosity, because at least two of them are over the minimum already. /o\

I have also started The Secret Circle, but considering I've only watched an ep and a bit, I can't really say much about it yet. Except that I had never truly considered a Twilight/Charmed crossover. Also Faye is gorgeous.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
The OTW, the elections, and me. )

Aaaaand the new AO3 site skin. )

Okay, now to slightly less fraught things. I am caught up on Burn Notice but have nothing to say, except TEAM, TEAM ON MY SCREEN, and also MADELINE YAY. And I watched Once Upon a Time in real time for once. Spoilery, of course. )

And! I finished Blackdog, but should probably hold off on the actual review until I have the book in front of me again. (Short version: I definitely enjoyed it! :D)
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)

15,610 / 50,000 words. 31.2% done!

Honestly? I'm a little weirded out by how well this NaNo is going. Maybe it's because I slept for shit all weekend (parents gone to Maine = I was the one stuck getting up to let the cat in at two in the morning) and I shouldn't be reading ANYTHING right now, but so far I am keeping up on the wordcount and I don't hate it? I don't even know how that's possible. o_O I think I did myself a favor not outlining all that strictly, because it means I don't have to revise the outline much when I change something, or write something I wasn't expecting to write. But, seriously. This is weird.

Anyway! I caught up yesterday on Once Upon a Time. Spoilers. ) Still recording this one.

Also, over the weekend I had a little spare time and watched Dragon Hunters (2008). Also some spoilers. ) I went to the AO3 right after I finished it, of course, and I was sort of surprised that I couldn't find anything - I was expecting it to have at least a Yuletide story or two.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)

4,894 / 50,000 words. 9.8% done!

So I got sick! Which actually was good timing, in a certain sense, because in between naps that added up to like eighteen hours of yesterday, I actually got pretty far on my NaNo. Sometimes being sick is weirdly facilitating to my writing - somehow it can temporarily lower the barrier between the not-words floating around in my head and the actual words I need to be putting down on the page. \o? Obviously I'm not quite done for today, but I think I can manage another paragraph or two this evening, if I don't just conk out on the couch the second I get home. (It's original fiction; I promised [personal profile] daemonelix a looooong time ago that I would reserve NaNo for origfic, because I write fanfic the whole rest of the year. :D)

But! There have been TV shows since last I posted. Once Upon a Time. Spoilers, of course. )

I am also watching Prime Suspect, but I have less to say about that except that I like Maria Bello, and also it makes me want to check out the original. I like watching cranky people be cranky and then also do their jobs, and since I am hitting my oversaturation point on most other police shows, it's nice to have one where I haven't had this ep on in the background while reading/eating dinner/writing fic twenty times already.

And Burn Notice is back tonight yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. ♥♥♥♥♥ Once I hit a certain level of affection for something, I am incapable of ever being objective about it again. Ever.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
YAY I DIDN'T FORGET TO POST YAY. \o/ I put a reminder in my calendar and everything, ugh, I was so nervous. :P Though the general drift of the story is, um, my usual (male character bites it, ladies everywhere, happy endings all around), it's kind of different stylistically - more serious, and probably more pretentious. D: But I think it turned out okay, and, bonus, I really like the title. (I hate titling things.) [personal profile] idriya is making absolutely BEAUTIFUL art, which I temporarily have all to myself because she's a perfectionist and insists that it's not done yet. But it should be up soon, and I will definitely link to it (less likely) or post it myself (far more likely, because [personal profile] idriya is lazy that way unless it's my birthday).

... **starts planning for [community profile] ladiesbigbang Round 2.5**

And [community profile] thelittlebang is having another extension! It's awful that the mods are having RL difficulties, but I can't say I'm not grateful for the extra time to prod my draft, because this story's sort of huge and I'm still not sure the pacing's quite right.

But! I watched the pilot of Once Upon a Time. ) I set the TV up to record this one, so even if I forget when it's on I should be able to keep up pretty easily.

... I really will try to get a chapter of LttE out before Christmas, I swear.
