damkianna: A cap of Bolin from The Legend of Korra, gesturing with Tenzin's hands. (Oh hey there.)
Not dead, just recovering - Sandy was very kind to my area, we didn't even lose power. But there is a funny sort of tension in being a safe state on the border of a swing state, and for a bunch of weekends and the four days leading up to Tuesday (and on Tuesday itself) I was volunteering for Democrats in New Hampshire. (Who did extremely well, New Hampshire is now ruled by women.) I stayed up until 3 a.m. watching the results and then slept like a log; everyone in Florida and Ohio and wherever else who put up with those lines is my hero. And I would like to apologize to everybody on the canvassing list who got hit a zillion times - they don't tell volunteers whether a house has been hit before, it's not our fault!

But: other things happened besides voting, although they were just a bit less important.

OUaT, the last ... three episodes? /o\ )

And my favorite, Revolution. 1.06 and 1.07, spoilers everywhere. )

I'm not caught up on Elementary or Burn Notice, but I will have aaaaaaall the free time this weekend, and I'll probably only spend half of it panicking about my Yuletide fic. :D And NaNo! I put the bar code from last year somewhere, I'll have to dig that up, but so far it's going quite well.
damkianna: A cap of Asami from The Legend of Korra. (It's lovely to meet you.)
I cannot understand how I can simultaneously have so much time on my hands and still take so long to get caught up on TV. /o\

Revolution 1.02-1.04, spoilers everywhere. ) I may keep watching just because a) there could be more Charlie/Nora moments and I'd ship that in a hot second, and b) whatever explanation they have for this bullshit anti-electricity field, I WANT TO HEAR IT; but damn, show. One step forward and four steps back.

Major Crimes is like the most amazing vidded kidfic I have ever seen where also some crimes happen, and basically all I need is for Brenda to hear about it and decide to move in to help. Or Sykes. That would work also. Sharon's face in the last episode, oh my god. ♥ That's all I've got.

And the WNBA, omg. I'm still like ten games behind, but I am slowly developing favorite teams - the Sparks, in particular, because: Ogwumike, Parker, Toliver, Beard, Thompson ... is there anyone on that team not to like? I also have a soft spot for the Fever (is it wrong to ship Catchings and Douglas just because Douglas had her arm around Catchings's seat when they were sitting together? I HOPE NOT) and the Mystics. And, of course, the Mercury, who even without Taurasi are pretty amazing. Basically I just love watching women's basketball, and if there's no RPF out there I will be so sad.

Lingering auction fic? DONE AT LAST. Now there is only the terror of the winner not liking it to get through, and then I'll have discharged my responsibilities and will be free to work Katara without feeling guilty. \o/ So many things to finish, so little time before NaNo!
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (What's it take to impress this guy?)
Watched Major Crimes, of course, but I really don't have anything new to say. SYKES. RAYDOR. AMY. SHARON. ♥

And - I blame my mother for this - I watched the pilot episode of Revolution. Spoilers everywhere. ) But I have to say that my hopes aren't super high, considering that IMDb has Eric Kripke credited not only as creator and producer but also as writer. D:

And now it might be time for me to go back to sleep. Why do I always get sick right when I'm starting to actually be productive for once?
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
OUaT! Besides YAY SHOW I MISSED YOU, I actually have only a few thoughts. Spoilery, of course. )

Ugh, so many maps still left to do. If I ever get around to some kind of appendix post for ItO, my appendices, they will block out the sun.

Then we will cite in the shade.

Also, I would like to stop being sick riiiiiight now. Now. Now? **sigh**
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Uuuuuuugh.

GOOD: I came randomly unblocked, and the exceptionally belated chapter of LttE is now over twelve thousand words long! I am caught up on OUaT and Burn Notice! I accidentally wrote a whole bunch of something that will never see the light of day but is still really satisfying!

BAD: I am sick. Said sickness has caused me to miss a professional conference I was supposed to attend with my boss, who is presumably now aware that I am a FAILBOAT, and if I do not get better by Wednesday, I pretty much have to go in anyway, because it is getting far too close to crunch time on a major event for the year and I am one of the people with some serious heavy lifting to do. This weekend has been pretty awful and this week is only going to be awfuler, most likely.

In conclusion: uuuuuuugh. I am going back to sleep.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
So, in terms of my to-do list, this weekend was TOTAL FAIL and I don't want to talk about it. :P

But! I did lots of RL things, including a volunteer shift at a local clothes sale and making (more) brownies and having lunch with K, and also saw movies!

Moneyball (aka that baseball movie that I'd heard was kind of good). )

And then my mother's Netflix was X-Men: First Class. Which is old news by this point, but cut just in case. )

Mostly, it didn't surprise me much at all; thanks to fandom osmosis, I knew a lot going in. (My mother: "-and Kevin Bacon was good-" Me: "Kevin Bacon's in this?!" My mother: "Yeah, he's the Nazi guy-" Me: "Shaw, Mom. His name's Shaw." My mother: "I thought you hadn't seen this.") Sometimes I wonder why I don't just give up on source material entirely, and interact with media solely through fandom - some things would be so much easier! I would probably like all the characters better!

And then the sequel to God's War arrives in the mail, and I remember. \o/ YAY THIS IS PROBABLY GOING TO BREAK MY HEART YAY.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
How is it Tuesday already WHAT. D: The end of last week was, like, the least relaxing Friday I have EVER had - Thursday night involved traversing a road that hates me, on foot, to find a place that would copy a document which I discovered on Friday had been missing a page, and needed to be picked up Saturday morning, only for the person who wanted them to find that, erroneously, the cover was in black-and-white instead of color. :P (Not a fatal problem, but he was not happy.)

And then I had a [personal profile] daemonelix for the weekend! Which was AWESOME, obvs., but not conducive to my usual relaxing sit-around-doing-nothing routine - we made brownies and took a good long walk and went kayaking. So yesterday was actually the do-nothing-iest day for me. Our school does not have "Columbus Day" off, precisely; but there was a local fair, and all the kids were there for the day, which meant I could sit in my office with the lights off and spend eight hours double-checking the parent-student directory and getting it ready for the printer. Good times.

BUT. There are still a whole bunch of things I need to do. )

I am buying myself so much candy for Halloween.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
I managed to remember my TV this week, which is really good, because Monday was the summer finale day for both The Closer and R&I.

The Closer; spoilery, of course. )

R&I, also spoilery! )

I so can't wait for this weekend - I feel like a cartoon person running on a barrel, there's so many things I want to catch up on! D:
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Uggggggggggggh my god last week. I didn't even have to work Saturday the way I did last year, and I still did nothing this weekend but lie on the couch and slowly regenerate my brainpower. (Well, and wash my car, but that was under duress.) Late chapter will be late; apologies! /o\ I'm actually really really glad [community profile] thelittlebang is having an extension - I mean, I hope nothing additional goes wrong for either mod and that everything works out well, but it's a lucky break for me.

Unsurprisingly, I missed all my TV - although on Monday that was because we went to see The Debt. Spoilers. )

Also, I bought myself three books the other week, as I mentioned, and one of them was God's War, by Kameron Hurley. ) I already ordered the second book. /o\

But! Now I should get back to work so I can finish everything I need to do and then write like a writing person this evening to get myself back on track.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
So, okay, I missed a bunch of episodes, but I actually remembered to tune in for Burn Notice last night, and I am so glad I did! Spoilers, natch; no particularly insightful thoughts. ) Next week could be either totally awesome or incredibly disappointing. It can be such a strain, being fannish about open canon. I don't know how people do this on a regular basis. DDDDDD:

I'm really glad this weekend coming up is going to be a long one, because I have SO MUCH to write, homg. And next weekend is the start of school, which means work is going to abruptly shift a gear or two up. At least I don't have homework anymore?
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
It is all blustery and puff-cloud-y today, which I love. I loved yesterday's massive thunderstorms somewhat less, because apparently the sound of wood cracking is enough to make me sprint out of my own bedroom like my carpet's on fire. (I blame this on the time a tree came down on our porch while I was sitting in the next room over - I saw it falling through the window, it made it look for a second like the house was moving instead. Which was an awesome optical illusion! And then it landed and pulverized the porch railing and our clothes rack was out there and has never stopped looking a little drunken even after we reassembled it, and oh hey it would have come down on my bedroom if it had fallen maybe fifteen feet to the left. DDDDDDDDDDDDDD:)

But! I finished one of my [community profile] genretwisting bingo stories and a draft of my [community profile] ladiesbigbang story, which is only twice as long as it needed to be! I am proud of myself for being so restrained. :D

Now if only I weren't moving to a new office tomorrow, everything would be great. :P My desk has acquired sooooo much crap in a year, this is not going to be easy.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
omg SO HOT. My tolerance for heat is so unbelievably low; it's not supposed to break 100F in my county, but 95 IS PRETTY BAD OKAY. D:

Also: this is belated because yesterday's post was already way long, but if I get one more nail in my tires this summer, I absolutely quit everything. Is someone strewing them along my route to work or something? whyyyyyyyyyy. Why do I get all the flats. (Nail #2, I am now keeping stashed in my cupholder, in the hope that other nails will sense that my car already has one and leave me alone.)
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Whoo, I've got some catching up to do.

Last last weekend: colonial gardens, swimming, failures to communicate. )

Last weekend, by contrast, was much less exciting; with the weight of my guilt lifted, I could go kayaking with my mother with a totally clear conscience. Technically, we also went last last weekend, but we picked a rather boring lake, with nothing to recommend it but two unexpected loons going fishing. Last weekend was way better - little peninsulas with nooks and crannies, fish and frogs and a great blue heron, and some really lovely water lilies.

But! I have also been watching TV.

The Closer, spoilery. )

Rizzoli & Isles. Also spoilery, and not especially pleased. )

I have not seen HPDH.2, because I am still pretty sure I'm going to cry like a baby; but I may have to do it just for Neville and Luna. (No epic HP fic until ItOverse is finished, self!) Also, The Daily Show: I had no idea Daniel Radcliffe was so awesome. I cannot get used to his face with no Harry!glasses, though.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
So, by "I will almost definitely be able to get it done tomorrow", what I actually meant was "I will forget that we have to go to a parade in the morning to cheer for [personal profile] idriya and then be rendered utterly useless by the heat". The Fourth is not typically a big deal for my family! I forgot! /o\ Oops. I should know better than to say these things - at least I stuck the "almost" in there. :D Anyway, let's revise that to: whenever the chapter's finished and I've made it less bad - which I will try to do quickly - I will post it.

Caught last week's Burn Notice, and, oh, Madeline. Spoilers! )

Google Docs has taught me to type into a browser window and Ctrl+S whenever I finish a paragraph. Good for GDocs; somewhat less helpful for a DW post. **closes the THIRD save-page-as dialog box in the past fifteen minutes**
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
I adore Tiny Dog (yeah, that's still her name) but her habit of barking at 5:30 is THE ANTITHESIS OF CHARMING. >:E I'm sure that it's not the only reason I'm still annoyingly tired, but I bet it isn't helping. Also, blah blah work. )

But! It hasn't rained yet today, which is a tiny miracle, and I think I have the general direction of the subplots for Book Three sorted out, which is GREAT. Seriously, I am getting all GRRM up in here; I need to sit my fics down and have a talk. Every minor character does not need their own storyline, okay. (And now I sound like a PSA: "When's the last time you talked to your fics about plot kudzu?")

To conclude: I don't precisely like having the office with the window that faces the fire escape, but there's some kind of large-leafed vine growing up it that makes it almost appealing in summer. Also, I can't believe I have to watch Avatar again, but I can't remember the middle (including who's onscreen when, so no transcripts for me) well enough to finish my fic for [community profile] thelittlebang without it. Curse you, James Cameron.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
I was so tired this weekend, for what seemed to be no good reason at all - maybe it's a time-of-the-month thing, I don't know. :P

But! I did manage to catch up on Burn Notice. Yay show! ) I just wish this show had more ladies. Besides Fi and Maddie, I think there was one on the CIA team, and she didn't have any lines. I don't think there were any in the shadow network montage. :P

Also watched Suits, and I am not sure what I think. On the one hand, YAY GINA TORRES YAY. On the other hand, a show about really smart rude white dudes and how smart they are? Gosh, I have never seen that before. :/ I'll probably catch it sometimes if it happens to be on, because the dialogue seemed pretty sharp and also GINA TORRES, but I don't know that I'll be diligent.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
So I waited what feels like FOREVER and finally it was June 23 and I was so! happy! \o/ ... and then some relatives on my dad's side who I knew were coming this weekend (but Thursday? Thursday is not the weekend!) arrived today and were over for dinner and the point is I had to miss Burn Notice. ;__________; Also, my ... cousin? God, I am so bad at relatives, and we almost never see my dad's side of the family - anyway, she genuinely could not tell me for certain whether she had seen all of the classic Star Wars movies. D: I'm not sure I can be related to her anymore. (If she hasn't at least read Harry Potter, I may weep and rend my garments. What will we talk about???)

Also, because I am easily distracted, I keep opening the next chapter of LttE and then ending up actually working on my outline for Book 3. o.O The plots have exploded on me so ridiculously; I think the optimal outlining format for me now would be some kind of three-dimensional interactive model. My kingdom for Tony Stark's computer system.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
This week is messing with my head so much - in a chronological way, not an anxiety way. I just cannot seem to keep track of what day it is. :P

But mostly I am here to record my ~thoughts. My last three Netflixes (Netflixen? Netflices?) were, put together, the entirety of The 10th Kingdom (2000). Not bad, just ... weird. ) Like, if they had only committed to it properly, I would have been totally sold; but instead they kept backing off and turning it into a joke. And they didn't have to! And if they hadn't I bet I would have completely adored it! But they did. :/ Also, I'm not sure why they called it "The 10th Kingdom", because ... that's really not even a little what it was about, in the end. o.O

But I will probably keep an eye out for it next Yuletide, just in case.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Long week has been so very very long. :P Possibly exacerbated by how I'm still not really at a hundred percent. Stupid lingering sore throat. Also, if I start griping about work this is going to turn into a giant wall of hate, so I will say that I came back from Plague Week to a very full inbox and leave it at that.

On the upside, I should now be successfully signed up for ALL THE THINGS ([community profile] thelittlebang and [community profile] ladiesbigbang, and, of course, [community profile] genretwisting is still in there), and - well. In terms of pure wordcount, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be fine; it'll be finishing the actual story plots that will be the hurdle. D:

I am getting stupidly fond of Trudy and Grace, though. Honestly, they're practically McShep, except for the part where a) they're women and b) canon is not about them and c) they both die. Which, gosh, I wonder how much a) has to do with b) and c)? (Answer: I am trying to avoid giant walls of hate today, so no comment. Except that that would make a kickass fusion AU. Teyla + Trudy = BFFS FOREVER OMG.)

But! For the next few days, I will be concentrating desperately on LttE, in the hope that I can actually get this chapter done. /o\ ugh i am so fail.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
I am finally inching back up toward healthy after a totally horrible week of coughing and sniffles and incredible tiredness - so, um, next chapter is still in the works, and definitely not going to be done today. /o\

I went to work for part of the day on Tuesday, which was a truly horrible decision. To summarize: my car had some kind of engine issue, which in retrospect was a warning; I spent about three hours sitting at my desk barely functioning; I left early, only to find that my mother's car, which I'd borrowed, had gotten a flat tire. I called my parents (and may have cried a little), and they came to rescue me, but in the process, my mother hit my toe with the spare and now it's all purple, and I literally burned my hands picking up the (black, metal) tools (from sunny pavement) after. WORST DAY EVER. I left work at 11:30 and we made it home by 2:00; I spent the rest of Tuesday lying very still and not touching anything.

But! I have finally gotten coordinated enough to actually do something with some of the photos I took in New York. Be warned: I am a total amateur, and I got a little ~artsy, so these are mostly random things I thought were pretty. And the lions at the Library, because I had to. Also, one of these statues is unclothed. )

Despite the weather, it really was lovely, and even with the illness and everything, I'm glad I went.

And now it's time to sleep some more, in the hopes that tomorrow I will actually be productive. \o/
