damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (Look at this place.)
I feel like I looked away, and then looked back, and ... September's almost over? I haven't posted in months?! THE YULETIDE LETTERS POST IS UP?!? How does this keep happening? *shakes fist*

A (relatively) brief survey of things I've enjoyed since FEBRUARY, wtf:

Batman v Superman. I don't know either. )

Ghostbusters! :D )

Star Trek: Beyond! )

WYNONNA EARP. )

S2 of Dark Matter! (Spoilers.) )

Other than that, still watching Major Crimes and still so happy with it that I have nothing to say about it. Slowly working my way through Miss Fisher and enjoying it so far. Lucifer's just started up again—I watched S1 and enjoyed it a lot, but I felt the same way about Sleepy Hollow, so we'll just see how S2 goes. And ... that's all that springs to mind, though I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

As for real life? ... I can't believe there's anyone left who's undecided about the presidential election, and that's about all I want to say about that. There are times when I love living in a safe blue state, and there are times when it makes me feel incredibly helpless.
damkianna: A cap of Padme Amidala from Star Wars, with accompanying text: "Queen". (Queen.)
All my regular TV shows are basically pleasing me and so I've got basically nothing to say about them. [personal profile] idriya and I are working our way through Fringe, via Netflix, and also through Blindspot, but so far I don't have much to say about those either except OLIVIA and ASTRID and SIF, yay. So instead I guess I'll talk about a) movies and b) shows that are dead or else I have problems with them. Whee! These are in order from "least to say" to "most to say", and are cut for spoilers.

Man from UNCLE (the movie). )

Quantico (TV). )

Strange Empire (TV). )

And, of course, STAR WARS: TFA. )

Man, I should chop that up and post it to tumblr as meta. It would be more content than I've managed to generate over there in years. :D

Also, there was this AO3 meme that was going around ... oh, before Christmas sometime, I'm sure—anyway, I copied it into the document where I draft posts, and now that Yuletide reveals are well behind us, I've finally filled it out!

These stats include anonymous works and do not include vids. )
damkianna: A cap of Lin from The Legend of Korra, on the arena roof. (That lady is my hero.)
My media experiences are piling up again, and if I don't post about them, I'd never post about anything! SO.

I realized that despite having had a long post-mortem with [personal profile] idriya IRL, I never actually said anything about the end of Sleepy Hollow's second season. Spoilers and ambivalence below the cut, if anyone still cares. )

All caught up on Forever, and now that it's probably canceled, why not post about it? )

I'm much less at peace with the probable cancellation of Battle Creek. )

I think that's just about everything we're watching on TV right now (except The Flash, but I never have much to say about The Flash. Or Elementary, but for the opposite reason). Which means I can move on to the reason I was actually prompted to make this post: we went to see Mad Max yesterday evening. Spoilers, obvs. )

And now I should actually do some work! (Oh, and I suppose I should say: outlines for Book Three of ItO now perhaps three-quarters wrangled, and I'm about 5k into Chapter 1. God knows how long it'll be, but I'm working on it.)
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra, Firebending. (And a Firebender.)
Three posts in one month? WHO AM I

I was thinking through the list of things I've seen recently and might want to talk about and not coming up with much (Sleepy Hollow: still watching, though not quite as fiercely in love; Major Crimes: still watching, as fiercely in love as ever; The Flash ... is a thing that's happened while I've been looking at it, as is the vague charm of Forever) and then suddenly remembered THE LIBRARIANS. I HAVEN'T POSTED ANYTHING ABOUT THE LIBRARIANS. !!!

Not necessarily a genuinely good show so much as it is EVERYTHING I WANT IN MY MEDIA EVER. (Except in the sense that it's awfully white.) Spoilers. ) Like, take all this with many grains of salt, my taste in media is really forgiving, but I SERIOUSLY LOVE THIS SHOW.

Anyway. Also, meme! Seen this in places, and couldn't resist:

When you see this, share 3 lines from 3 random WIPs. Doing as some other folks have done and interpreting 3 lines REALLY loosely ... WIPs in Camelot, Sinbad, Rizzoli & Isles. )
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra, through lines of fire. (Bending is the coolest.)
Catching up on everything I've seen since before Yuletide:

Tom Cruise, Sci-Fi Action Hero. Aka I ended up watching Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow back-to-back. )

And continuing the sci-fi, I also watched Guardians of the Galaxy. )

Not caught up on Sleepy Hollow; nothing to say about Major Crimes except oh, the Christmas episodes of Closerverse shows are SO RIDICULOUS AND DARLING. ♥ And the canon review I did for Yuletide has set off some kind of incredible Babylon 5 renaissance in my soul, just in time for [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love's 2015 mini-rewatch! (The mini-rewatch episode list is here, for any interested parties.) I actually just finished marathoning Crusade (oh, god, the sfx and HI DANIEL DAE KIM), but luckily they're going chronologically, so I'll have a chance to work my way back around before watching Well of Forever again.
damkianna: A cap of Katara and Korra from The Legend of Korra. (She's strong.)
Maybe I'll just try to work my way up to posting twice a month, and see how that works out. /o\

[community profile] femslashex happened! I wrote a Sinbad (Nala/Rina) treat for [personal profile] muccamukk, which is to say I've had an idea sitting half-written in my head since last femslashex, having watched Sinbad at all solely after reading muccamukk's letter that year, and then she asked for it again and this time I was able to write the story down fast enough to meet the deadline. \o/ One of these days I'm going to have to get around to a set of Sinbad posts - it's such an adorably terrible show! Things I enjoyed large parts of but really want to tweak are always the ones I get most fannish about. I'd do a recs post except I still haven't read everything I have open in tabs, but basically if you haven't checked the collection for anything in your fandoms, you totally should.

And since the last time I posted, there's been:

Sleepy Hollow! Spoilers, obvs. )

Korra! Spoilers, obvs. Also probably don't click this if you're generally pretty happy with the show this season. )

Elementary! Spoilers, obvs. )

Not caught up yet on SHIELD; I'm also watching Forever and portions of Flash mostly for the hell of it, no real commentary to offer there.

I'm doing NaNoWriMo, but not precisely by the rules, because I'm counting words I write for Yuletide; so far this is working out well, and I may even wholly avoid bears this year. (My recipient and I could not have more divergent approaches to Yuletide if we were trying! This has proven exciting but wholly manageable, and as a bonus I should have plenty of time to edit my assignment/work on treats. \o/)
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (I have to find my own path.)
Tell yourself you can take a week off from posting because you're traveling, and suddenly it's a month and a half later and your delinquency is only worsening. OOPS. I'm going to have to pick out one of those post-a-day meme thingies just to get back in the habit.

ANYWAY. Between my last meaningful post and today, I saw Maleficent like four times and completely fucking loved it. Spoilers, if anyone still cares. )

And then also Book 3 of Korra happened! I can't even imagine how annoying this whole airing schedule/swap-to-online mess was for anybody who'd been following along solely by watching Nickelodeon, and I really hope they aren't kidding about the show having had better viewing online anyway. I haven't posted about this season since the leak, so I suppose I might as well run through the whole thing at once, and divide it by feeling like always. (Feel free to read the cut whose tenor appeals most to you and not touch the other two!)

SQUEE! )

Meh. )

Aaaaaand bleh. )

Sleepy Hollow has also started! Yay I'm so happy. <3 I love everybody in this bar everything about this show, from the ridiculous "historical" shenanigans to the hugs, and everything in between. Cut for spoilers. ) The only thing I want for Halloween is more things for Katrina to do besides be menaced by the Nice Guyiest Nice Guy. She has PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS. GIVE HER THINGS TO DO ALREADY. (Somebody's written the AU where she's the one who woke up and is buddy cops with Abbie as her powers slowly recover, while Ichabod appears in her dreams giving her cryptic warnings—right? Right?)

And somewhere in there, the first book of ItO cracked 10k hits! I remember when I was posting happily about 500, I am SO THRILLED. (That is almost 3x the population of my hometown! I mean, I know hits != unique visitors. BUT STILL.)

I think that's everything I have feelings about; I haven't watched the new ep of SHIELD, or Guardians of the Galaxy. Back to working on treats for [community profile] femslashex!
damkianna: A cap of Bolin from The Legend of Korra, gesturing with Tenzin's hands. (Oh hey there.)
So! It's been a while since I've done a catch-up post on TV; I don't have much to say about Sleepy Hollow (still enjoying it) or SHIELD (still enjoying it) or Major Crimes (definitely still enjoying it!); but [personal profile] idriya and I have also been watching Almost Human, and I think we're far enough into it now for me to be able to say, with relative certainty, I have no idea why I'm still watching this show. Cut for spoilers, 1.01-1.06, and also for lack of squee. ) For what it's worth, there are moments I've enjoyed very much, and I get what people who aren't me like about it! But it's just not doing it for me.

Surely someone out there has written some incredible ten-thousand-word meta about humanity, personhood, and why American media's perception and understanding of both mean that Dorian was always, always going to have a working dick. I just have to find it.
damkianna: A cap of the Reverend Mother from the Dune miniseries, with accompanying text: "Space cowgirl." (Default)
Time keeps passing without telling me it's going to.

Revolution, 2.02-2.08. ) I can't quite make myself stop watching, because a) Charlie and Rachel! and b) a part of me seems to find frothing with hatred cathartic. But, seriously, I hate this show. A lot.

Korra, 2.07-2.14. Herds of teal deer. ) So. Yeah. Some mixed feelings overall.

By contrast, I have almost nothing whatsoever to say about Sleepy Hollow because basically I'm just enjoying the ride. (I haven't seen the most recent ep, I don't think.) Are there plot holes? Sure there are! But the more recent episodes have been much less faily than the first couple, and ABBIE. ABBIE AND JENNY. ICHABOD. CAPTAIN IRVING. The end. *hands*

As far as Agents of SHIELD goes, still watching. ) Possibly I'm too generous! But through the rose-colored glasses of my personal interpretation: still happy.

Not quite on track for NaNo, but close, and if you added in what I've written for my Yuletide story, I'd be ahead. :D
damkianna: A cap of Jinora from The Legend of Korra. (I will make no such promises.)
In between being CONSUMED by the drama of Yuletide signups (my letter did not scare people away from Banlieue 13! FANNISH FISTPUMP), I have actually been sort of keeping up with TV.

Revolution 2.01 ) Sigh.

Sleepy Hollow 1.03-1.04 )

Agents of SHIELD 1.02-1.03 )

Korra, 2.04-2.06 ) Also I'd like the AU where Asami's company does in fact sell weapons and then she becomes Iron Man Lady. Yesterday. (If she doesn't hire Zhu Li away from Varrick to be her Pepper Potts at some point this season, I will cry.)

I also watched Warm Bodies the other day; I have no incisive commentary except that it took me until the balcony scene to really geddit (OMG THEIR NAMES I see what you did there), and I enjoyed everything except wee spoiler. ) But aside from that, it was weird and ridiculous and sweet and funny, and overall I enjoyed it. If you have to keep making paranormal romances about thin straight white people, movie industry, you could at least make them like this.

Next chapter of LttE: 14k. \o/
damkianna: A cap of Katara and Korra from The Legend of Korra. (She's strong.)
Still not dead! This is somehow easier to talk about because it's now resolved: I got fired late last July, and was unemployed for quite a while before I suddenly got another job this June, and also moved to a new apartment with [personal profile] idriya. Which is great! But also stressful and kind of exhausting; I've been super-busy about half the summer, and the other half I've been aggressively not accomplishing anything, so as to keep my head from exploding.

I'm starting to ease back into the groove of the internet, though, at last, and what better way to do that than rewind all the way back to June and complain about Revolution? ) I'd wash my hands of this show except a) Charlie and b) Rachel, and also the new season can only get worse better more Revolutiony. 2.01 aired yesterday; I'll probably watch it this weekend.

I think there were also some episodes of OUaT. ) Kind of hard to believe it'll be back on Sunday.

I haven't been keeping up at all on Defiance, but I should now that I can marathon it - with some shows, marathoning just works better for me. As for new shows this fall: the first two episodes of Sleepy Hollow ), the pilot of Agents of SHIELD ).

Also new this fall: Korra, 2.01-2.03. ) Overall, I think I had better wait and see.

And: Yuletide already, what. Guess I'd better start reviewing the nominations spreadsheet and furiously drafting a preliminary letter!

And I know it's been a year (!!! THE GUILT), but at long last: the next chapter of Listen to the Earth is at 10k and counting.
damkianna: A cap of Korra and Asami from The Legend of Korra, about to race. (Let's do it.)
I realize that April must actually have happened, but I feel like I blinked at the end of March and now it's summer. D:

The most interesting thing first, so you do not have to scroll through the beast this post is going to become: Rarewomen 2013 recs! A:tLA, A:tLoK, The Avengers, Burn Notice, The Borgias, The Mummy, Push (2009). )

And I wrote i do not ask for any crown (A:tLA, Yangchen backstory) for none other than [personal profile] ambyr, which was the best assignment I could possibly have hoped for; I'm just sorry I couldn't manage more than one fic, because three out of four fandoms were ones I could have written for and all her prompts were beautiful. ♥

Onward to ALL THE TV:

Once Upon a Time, a bunch of eps. )

Revolution, 1.11-1.14 )

The Borgias, 3.01-3.03 )

I am also watching Vikings, but don't have much to add except that I find the pacing really, really odd, which I assume is a function of the History Channel writing it like - well, like a historical overview instead of like a TV show. I understand it, but it's still weird.

Also, Defiance, 1.01-1.02. )
damkianna: A cap of Asami from The Legend of Korra. (All you need to do is show up.)
The more time I have, the less I use it for anything I should be using it for. /o\

A few days ago, I finally sat down and watched Tomorrow, When the War Began (2010). ) So I wish I could rec it for the ladies, but it's hard to when it's oblivious and the premise is so racefail.

Would it be weird to write like four stories for my [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen recip? Because: great exchange assignment, or GREATEST EXCHANGE ASSIGNMENT? I am SO EXCITE.
damkianna: A cap of Ikki from The Legend of Korra, hopeful. (Can I have some lychee juice?)
I can't have a real catch-up post until my folks come back from Italy, because I will be pretty un-caught-up until that happens; but there are a couple things that I've already finished and merely failed to post about.

Revolution, 1.08-1.10. ) Odds are I'm going to keep watching this, but not because it's good.

Chicago Fire, 1.01-1.08. )

Beauty and the Beast, 1.01-1.07. )

Three other small things: I have a tumblr now ([tumblr.com profile] damkianna). Not because I'm making any kind of shift or am at all likely to prefer it; because lots of pretty pictures of ladies, and because I might as well have somewhere to dump the results of me screwing around in Photoshop.

In rl news, the sad and sudden death of our remaining cat was followed a day and a half later by the acquisition of two stray sibling kittens who needed a home. Currently unnamed, although siblings + one boy and one girl = Luke and Leia are strong contenders. They are tabbies, about eight weeks old now, and completely adorable. (They hide every time someone enters the bathroom we've set aside for them; but they've begun coming out to play while people are around, and relax relatively quickly when held.)

And: under my RL name, I may have actually managed to sell a short story. \o/ I'm lurching back and forth between REALLY PLEASED and terrified; but I really want the magazine to do well, and I'm glad I could contribute!

I finished my Yuletide assignment, but somehow I am still feeling BEARS. I have no idea how many times I've gone back to edit it, but if I did I probably wouldn't want to post the number. /o\
damkianna: A cap of Bolin from The Legend of Korra, gesturing with Tenzin's hands. (Oh hey there.)
Not dead, just recovering - Sandy was very kind to my area, we didn't even lose power. But there is a funny sort of tension in being a safe state on the border of a swing state, and for a bunch of weekends and the four days leading up to Tuesday (and on Tuesday itself) I was volunteering for Democrats in New Hampshire. (Who did extremely well, New Hampshire is now ruled by women.) I stayed up until 3 a.m. watching the results and then slept like a log; everyone in Florida and Ohio and wherever else who put up with those lines is my hero. And I would like to apologize to everybody on the canvassing list who got hit a zillion times - they don't tell volunteers whether a house has been hit before, it's not our fault!

But: other things happened besides voting, although they were just a bit less important.

OUaT, the last ... three episodes? /o\ )

And my favorite, Revolution. 1.06 and 1.07, spoilers everywhere. )

I'm not caught up on Elementary or Burn Notice, but I will have aaaaaaall the free time this weekend, and I'll probably only spend half of it panicking about my Yuletide fic. :D And NaNo! I put the bar code from last year somewhere, I'll have to dig that up, but so far it's going quite well.
damkianna: A cap of Jinora from The Legend of Korra. (I will make no such promises.)
I just cannot keep up!

Revolution 1.05; spoilers. )

The previews for two weeks out look so terrifyingly atrocious, my god. I'd ask how low this show can sink but I don't actually want to know.

OUaT, which somehow got left out of the roundup last time. Spoilers for all aired eps. )

Elementary! Spoilers for all aired eps. )

All told: I would like some more episodes please. :D

And I don't know how this happened, but The Three Musketeers (2011). ) I mean, I just. What. I loved it. HELP ME. Please don't watch this movie, you'll never respect me again.

I have a Google doc full of people's Yuletide and Festivid prompts that I might be able to fill as a treat, sorted by fandom, with the full text of the request and a link back to the DYW/DFV post each prompt came from. I ... I think I'm developing a system for this. \o/
damkianna: A cap of Asami from The Legend of Korra. (It's lovely to meet you.)
I cannot understand how I can simultaneously have so much time on my hands and still take so long to get caught up on TV. /o\

Revolution 1.02-1.04, spoilers everywhere. ) I may keep watching just because a) there could be more Charlie/Nora moments and I'd ship that in a hot second, and b) whatever explanation they have for this bullshit anti-electricity field, I WANT TO HEAR IT; but damn, show. One step forward and four steps back.

Major Crimes is like the most amazing vidded kidfic I have ever seen where also some crimes happen, and basically all I need is for Brenda to hear about it and decide to move in to help. Or Sykes. That would work also. Sharon's face in the last episode, oh my god. ♥ That's all I've got.

And the WNBA, omg. I'm still like ten games behind, but I am slowly developing favorite teams - the Sparks, in particular, because: Ogwumike, Parker, Toliver, Beard, Thompson ... is there anyone on that team not to like? I also have a soft spot for the Fever (is it wrong to ship Catchings and Douglas just because Douglas had her arm around Catchings's seat when they were sitting together? I HOPE NOT) and the Mystics. And, of course, the Mercury, who even without Taurasi are pretty amazing. Basically I just love watching women's basketball, and if there's no RPF out there I will be so sad.

Lingering auction fic? DONE AT LAST. Now there is only the terror of the winner not liking it to get through, and then I'll have discharged my responsibilities and will be free to work Katara without feeling guilty. \o/ So many things to finish, so little time before NaNo!
damkianna: A cap of Korra from The Legend of Korra. (What's it take to impress this guy?)
Watched Major Crimes, of course, but I really don't have anything new to say. SYKES. RAYDOR. AMY. SHARON. ♥

And - I blame my mother for this - I watched the pilot episode of Revolution. Spoilers everywhere. ) But I have to say that my hopes aren't super high, considering that IMDb has Eric Kripke credited not only as creator and producer but also as writer. D:

And now it might be time for me to go back to sleep. Why do I always get sick right when I'm starting to actually be productive for once?
damkianna: A cap of Ikki from The Legend of Korra, hopeful. (Can I have some lychee juice?)
Long time no post, but I'm caught up with nearly everything - and we even lost power a couple days ago, which means I finally had a reason to sit down and read an actual dead tree book for a little while. \o/

Major Crimes, squee and spoilers. ) /o\ I AM SO EASY FOR THIS SHOW. HELP.

Still watching allllll the WNBA games I can tape, and really enjoying it. I have absolutely no stake in any of the games except my tendency to root for the underdog, so I get all the joy of watching without the stress of being the fan of a single team.

Also, for no particular reason, I ended up with a copy of Delgo (2008). Spoilers, if anyone cares? )

I actually finished some stuff, and yet my fannish to-do list has only grown. UNFAIR. Also, Youtube Let's-Plays are the most addictive thing in the world. It's like watching people play Oregon Trail all through my fourth grade lunch period, times ten.
damkianna: A cap of Asami from The Legend of Korra, smirking. (You can't be afraid to mix it up.)
I was doing so well, and then the Olympics. (Women's basketball is my favorite, I have tremendous girlcrush feelings for Diana Taurasi.) Sigh.

But they're finally over, which means I'm actually a productive adult again. Sort of. And things have happened in the interim!

My birthday! )

And somewhere back there, I went to see The Amazing Spider-Man, or whatever it is - the new one. Spoilers! )

[personal profile] idriya and I also went to see The Bourne Legacy. Also spoilers. )

And then yesterday there was the Closer finale, and the pilot of Major Crimes. Spoilers again. ) HELP ME I CANNOT HAS OBJECTIVE OPINIONS.

And that's probably enough of a textwall for one post. Next chapter of LttE has cracked 15k with only a couple of sections left to go, so I swear to god it's coming. /o\

Also: my mother only recognized Taio Cruz during the Olympic closing ceremony because of that Korra vid I made. Win.
