damkianna: A cap of Ikki from The Legend of Korra, hopeful. (Can I have some lychee juice?)

I can't have a real catch-up post until my folks come back from Italy, because I will be pretty un-caught-up until that happens; but there are a couple things that I've already finished and merely failed to post about.

In summary:

1.08 - GRACE IS ALIVE WOOHOOOOO
1.09 - Oh jesus it's the hallucination episode.
1.10 - DUN DUN DUN.

I'm really glad Grace wasn't dead, although I reserve judgment about her imprisonment until we understand a little more about what's going on there - it's been like a month since this ep and like three weeks since the other two, but from what I recall we don't actually get a complete picture of what Randall's deal is. But: GRACE IS ALIVE.

I'm bummed that Nora's sister was a turncoat, but I did love getting some Nora flashbacks at last, and also the sheer number of scenes that you could turn into Charlie/Nora if you wanted to. ♥ I do think it makes this show even more inarticulate, or articulate in a bad way - bio!family is to be embraced when it means you help Charlie and spurned when it means you don't, because ... reasons. D: But this show was already terrible anyway. I do wish Mia had come along with them instead, but that never had any real chance of happening canonically. FIC TIME.

The hallucination episode was ridic. I mean, I am not a doctor, maybe that's exactly what happens when you're oxygen-deprived, but it was still ridic. I did like that it took Charlie a relatively short time to realize that she was hallucinating and had to wake up - I figured they were really going to drag that shit out, but they didn't. And Juliet!Mom is AMAZING. Honestly, my respect for Dr. Jaffe was basically nil after that zillionth hostage-family-member scene; he gave up the info and he spilled the beans about her machine, and she had to kill him to survive, so she did. BADASS. (Not that I approve of homicide, but in the sense of a character moment that was pretty great. Particularly for this show.)

And the finale! Credit where credit is due, they did manage to wrap up Asthma!Danny's plotline while simultaneously setting up a larger unfinished arc - if this show had been canceled, it would not have ended cruelly. Unfortunately the actual episode writing is still atrocious, but hey. Juliet continued awesome, and so did Charlie - I confess I really enjoyed the escape scene, where it is made abundantly obvious to Danny just how much Charlie has changed. I still think the changes themselves were badly written and poorly handled, but that scene was good. More holding people's family members hostage (IT WORKS. EVERY TIME), lots of shooting, oh oh look Monroe is a ~person with ~feelings, zzzzzzzzz. I really couldn't give less of a crap about him if I tried, but I'm sure the fandom is full of Monroe/Miles, because their conversation in this episode was something. Odds are I'm going to keep watching this, but not because it's good.

I haven't watched the most recent episode, and I wouldn't quite call my feelings fannish just yet, but I am surprised by how much I'm enjoying this show. Aside from people we're clearly supposed to think are assholes (which is mostly just Voight, really), I ... I like everyone. Everyone is likeable. Obviously Severide is not making great choices, but pretty much everyone else is; the characters support each other, (mostly) aren't petty, don't sabotage each other, don't let personal issues get in the way of their jobs ... It's amazing. The drama is almost all external, and mostly doesn't make the characters dickish, and, I just. I LIKE EVERYONE. I admit Dawson and Shay are my favorites (and Peter Mills, who doesn't like Peter Mills? NO ONE), but, seriously. Everyone. Likeable. ♥

I'm not entirely sure why I'm watching this show except I kind of had a Kristin Kreuk day the other week and didn't stop. I never watched the original TV show, but I absorbed enough to know Vincent and Catherine's names and that it was modern and people shipped it really hard? That was about all I had.

I am watching it in the not-fully-emotionally-committed way that I watch things on the CW, and in that way enjoying it - Catherine beats someone up in most of the episodes, which is awesome, and I actually really like that the stalking is mutual and that Vincent and Catherine have conversations about boundaries and negotiating them. Mostly, though: I LOVE TESS FOREVER. There's no doubt in my mind that Catherine and Vincent are endgame, but I loooooooove Catherine and Tess's partnership - how Tess supports Catherine without failing to call her on her behavior when necessary, how they talk to each other, how they dance at each other after the baseball game and how they pose together in the photobooth and just, ugh. YES. MY HEART. I hope that Tess learns about Vincent soon and is around for even more of the time, because ♥. They are so adorable.

Three other small things: I have a tumblr now ([tumblr.com profile] damkianna). Not because I'm making any kind of shift or am at all likely to prefer it; because lots of pretty pictures of ladies, and because I might as well have somewhere to dump the results of me screwing around in Photoshop.

In rl news, the sad and sudden death of our remaining cat was followed a day and a half later by the acquisition of two stray sibling kittens who needed a home. Currently unnamed, although siblings + one boy and one girl = Luke and Leia are strong contenders. They are tabbies, about eight weeks old now, and completely adorable. (They hide every time someone enters the bathroom we've set aside for them; but they've begun coming out to play while people are around, and relax relatively quickly when held.)

And: under my RL name, I may have actually managed to sell a short story. \o/ I'm lurching back and forth between REALLY PLEASED and terrified; but I really want the magazine to do well, and I'm glad I could contribute!

I finished my Yuletide assignment, but somehow I am still feeling BEARS. I have no idea how many times I've gone back to edit it, but if I did I probably wouldn't want to post the number. /o\
