damkianna: A cap of Bolin from The Legend of Korra, gesturing with Tenzin's hands. (Oh hey there.)

I swear, time is just SPRINTING past me these days ("on your left!").

... That I'm making that joke at all means, yes, after a long, awkward wait that involved a lot of eps of SHIELD piling up, my sister and I finally saw Cap 2 and then (mostly) caught up on SHIELD. I enjoyed Cap 2 in a general sense (amnesiac boyfriends trying to kill each other never gets old), although I came away feeling that their "burn it down" solution to SHIELD's problems was a little too simplistic. Yes, HYDRA; yes, SHIELD had some ethical issues anyway; but SHIELD did deal with a lot of really dangerous things that could do an incredible amount of damage - there's a reason why a lot of super awesome people (PEGGY. MARIA. MELINDA MAY.) started/joined an organization like this, after all.

So for like five minutes, I was REALLY HAPPY with Agents of SHIELD: they were acknowledging that, trying to maintain containment and work out what to do about the Fridge, &c. &c. I love Victoria Hand, I love Melinda May, I adore Skye and Simmons.

It's too bad everything else that happened after that made me want to scream into a pillow.

:: The dialogue on this show just seems to be getting worse and worse. I've been noticing it increasingly - I can picture it written out in the speech bubble of a comic book, but when you make live people actually say these things, they sound so ridiculous.
:: I enjoyed Ward's raised-by-cyborg-wolves routine better than seemingly everyone else on the entire internet, but I would absolutely have embraced his being HYDRA, and would have been willing to run with it, if they hadn't made their point by having him murder Hand. Down to the dramatic shot of blood running over the back of her hand where she's collapsed on the floor! Fuck you, show. (In my head this is how she discovers she has regenerative superpowers; and it's comics, so who the hell knows. But even with this to comfort me? Fuck you, show.) As it is, I hope Skye hurls him off the Bus into the ocean. The moment Hand got shot was the moment I felt myself disengage that last crucial inch; I may very well keep watching this show, and even start liking it again depending on what happens, but I'm not going to love it.
:: This is just one bullet for the sake of my cardiovascular health: I absolutely loathed every single thing about 1.19, EXCEPT Melinda May and her mother at the very end. Basically I wish the rest of that episode had just never happened, but as it is I'm never ever going to get the taste of Nice Guy out of the back of my throat. What an incredible waste of Amy Acker.

:: Separate bullet to timewarp back to 1.15, Yes Men: basically the only thing I liked about this episode was how easy it was to recast Sif and Lorelei as bitter ex-girlfriends. The whole controlling men/men are weak (look so feminist) thing is just so fucking old - I mean, you know what I watched last weekend with friends? Stargate SG-1, 1.14, Hathor, which aired in 1997. AND at least Stargate managed to figure out that maybe you don't send dudes to stop a lady who can control dudes' minds, which apparently is one step further than SHIELD is capable of going with its logic. Thirty seconds to have the team put in earplugs and one half-second cut to show one of Ward's earplugs falling out, and that's all it would have taken to stop me from spending the rest of the episode yelling at the TV. May and Sif chatting about weaponry was an oasis in a desert of thoughtless, pointless failboatery.

We haven't watched 1.20 yet, but let's just say I'm not feeling any real urgent need to. Sigh.

Aside from that, I'm mostly just accumulating TV I have heard is good and then utterly failing to watch any of it, because: time. I did, however, manage to finish my [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen fic - early, even, which hardly ever happens, and is the absolute last thing I was expecting given the fandom involved. \o/ (Intimidating fandom, afraid to offer it but I did at the last minute, aaaaand MATCHED, because of course.) And someone posted a gift for me, which I have done my best to shake because that's how I roll and OMG SO EXCITED. :D :D :D :D :D I always dread signing up for exchanges because I never know what to ask for, but every time I get HOPELESSLY AWESOME GIFTS.

I wish I could read it already; but judging by these past couple months, it'll be next week before I know it, anyway.

Do we have any word on when rarewomen will go public? I cannot wait to read all the stories!

I know! I cannot wait also to see what my recipient thinks. I am a little wibbly about how my story will be received. It's not in a fandom I normally write in, even though it's a well-loved source material.

ETA: OOH, YES, LORELAI/SIF. I can't believe it took me two full comments and an edit to ping to how that makes the entire episode far different (though perhaps not different enough, sheesh).
