damkiannaI don't even know who you are and I am already super grateful to you for signing up for Rarewomen! I hope this letter is helpful, but if you get to the end and you are thinking to yourself "Holy shit, what the hell am I going to do for this person?!" then NEVER MIND. Ignore this letter and write a story you will have a good time writing, and you will have been an excellent exchange participant, even if your fic is not crafted specially to suit ~my wishes~.
(And don't panic if you have to default or cannot finish your fic; I know things happen, and I do not blame you in the least! Not that I will even necessarily know about it, but I know that wouldn't make me less nervous. Seriously, no guilt.)
This holds over from Yuletide: feel free to look around my DW if you would like, though of course you are not obliged to. I have not posted much this month because I'm mid-responsibility failure spiral, but my fic is all at the AO3, even if I haven't yet crossposted my Yuletide stories this year. My movies tag, books tag, and tv shows tag have basically every thought I have had about media in the last four or five years.
General Stuff
I love: ladyslash, het, dudeslash, gen, happy or hopeful or at least not rocks-fall-everyone-dies endings, friendship, humor, banter, fond mockery, women having lots of feelings and things to do and talking to each other, unexpected kindness, insecurity, determination, slice-of-life, character studies, introspection, and people trying to do the right thing even when they sometimes fail. I am totally okay with AUs, whether fork-in-the-road or they're-all-in-high-school, and cliché fic is awesome. (I do not want to pressure you for crossovers, but I also enjoy a good fusion AU, if that is a thing you are into.) Plot or hijinks or action is fine; a quiet moment or small conversation or just a character looking out a window and thinking is also fine.
I have no triggers relating to but probably won't be overly thrilled by: death of a requested character, graphic torture, sexual assault or heavy dub-con, BDSM. (Exception here for Nandi - if you would like to write a story about the end to her storyline, feel free.) Violence goes hand-in-hand with a bunch of my fandoms; it's mostly really loving descriptions of excruciating pain or trauma that I would like to avoid.
But! Mostly I want you to write a story you want to write, and to write a story you can be pleased with when it's finished. If you have questions or want to clarify something but don't want to ask me directly,idriya is my sister and should have anon commenting on; she will more than likely be able to help you out.

Firefly (YoSaffBridge, Nandi, Patience)
From the signup: I would love anything about any of these women, in combination or individually, at any point that strikes your fancy. A young Nandi, first coming to the House or breaking musical instruments, or the story of a slightly older Nandi coming into ownership of the brothel? Just what it's like for Patience running Whitefall - how she got there, or how she came to stay? YoSaffBridge running all the cons? Yes please! YoSaffBridge meeting Nandi - we never did learn where she got her Companion-like training - or trying to run a con on Patience? Nandi docking a little while on Whitefall on her way to the rim? I would love it! Missing scenes from an episode - Patience's thoughts riding out to meet Mal, or Nandi before/after calling Inara, or YoSaffBridge in any of her episodes? YES. I enjoy worldbuilding and other people's headcanon, so feel free to invent worlds and backstories if you'd like to; I love the show, so if you'd like to stick to canon, that would also be awesome.
Obviously you might want to write some deathfic for Nandi, but I'd prefer to avoid it for Patience or YoSaffBridge; I'd be happy to have minor characters appear, Nandi's girls or YoSaffBridge's sistren (if you'd like to roll with her first backstory being true, at least in part), or any deputies or helping hands working for Patience. (OCs are also totally fine.) But! I'd love for the focus to be on one of these three excellent women, or more than one of them. For this exchange I admit I'd prefer femslash to het (Nandi/YoSaffBridge or hints of Nandi/Inara would be right up my alley), but if an idea strikes you that you really love, throw everything I've said out the window and write it!
Other details: Honestly, I was super longwinded in the signup, I don't know what else to say! I am perfectly okay with fic that pokes at the problematic elements of Firefly, because there definitely are some; if you loathe writing issuefic with the blazing power of a thousand suns, that's totally fine, too. I am also up for multiple character interpretations, and I love reading stories about women with qualities not typically associated with heroism, women who are violent or deceptive or ambitious (or all three). Each of these ladies is fascinating to me for a variety of reasons, and a fic about any or all of them will just make my day.
Major Crimes (Sharon Raydor, Amy Sykes)
From the signup: I have adored Sharon Raydor ever since her first guest appearance on The Closer, and when I heard they were making this show my heart exploded in a shower of rainbows and sunshine; it only took about five minutes for me to develop a tremendous girlcrush on Amy Sykes. Anything about either of these women would make my day - a thousand-word snippet of casefic, Sharon thinking about her new position or outsmarting someone, Amy backstory or Amy in the hospital or Sharon while Amy's in the hospital - anything! And if you'd like to include them both, they don't interact nearly often enough in the show, so anything from pairing fic to a casual conversation would be awesome. (I do ship it, but don't feel pressured in the least if it's not your thing.)
I do not mind Rusty in the least and would be happy to have him or the rest of the team included, but for this exchange I'd prefer the focus to be on Sharon or Amy (in one of their POVs, at the very least). I would appreciate no fic where either of them dies, or totally unrelenting angst; I would not mind something like a case going poorly and either one of them being upset by the results, but I would prefer to avoid serious physical/emotional trauma, generally speaking. Push (Kira Hudson)
From the signup: I enjoyed this movie a lot, and would be happy to have any of the characters who were nominated be included, but I really liked Kira and would absolutely love a story about her. Anything at all - pre-movie, wrestling with her power and what it means to be able to do what she can do, her backstory with Nick, her thoughts at various points during the movie (especially the incredibly unsettling final scene), post-movie adventures where she tries to avoid Division and find Nick and/or Cassie again ... I'd love something with her and Cassie - a scene from an AU where she's the one who met Cassie and Nick was taken by Division would be excellent! But seriously, anything about Kira would be awesome, on her own or not.
I'd prefer no deathfic or really severely unhappy stories, and for this exchange please do try to stick to Kira; Kira/Nick is quasi-canon and I like Nick fine, but I'd prefer for the story to be mostly or all Kira. Obviously optional details are totally optional, and if something grabs you and won't let go, ignore me and write it!
Other details: I find Kira's story way more interesting than the movie mostly gives it credit for, and her power is fascinating and freaky in pretty much equal measure (omfg final scene). I do love Cassie and would be happy to have her in the story, but I narrowed my request down to just Kira because there's practically no fic about her at all and I would love for that to change! As noted, if going AU is something that appeals to you then please do, I would love that; there is also a lot of space for pre-movie, missing scenes, and post-movie canon-compliant fic, and that would be equally great. I enjoy alternate character interpretations, but for this fandom I would prefer a good Kira - not necessarily unambiguously good, I do have a soft spot for a character choosing the good of the many over their own personal scruples, but I like Kira and would rather she weren't depicted as villainous.
Optional details are utterly optional, and please don't feel restricted by matching - there are only thirteen episodes of Firefly and only ten episodes of Major Crimes, and Push is a movie of average length that came out several years ago, so none of them should be too difficult to pick up if you would like to!
