OMG I actually signed up this year!

Whoever you are, you are already wonderful for signing up for Yuletide at all, and I hope this letter is helpful instead of scary and/or useless. Because I know this would worry me (it's already worrying me!): please, please don't beat yourself up if you find you have to default this year, whether it's because my requests are all terrible or because something happens IRL or just for any reason whatsoever. All I want is for you to enjoy this Yuletide and have a good time writing a fic, and if that can't happen, don't feel guilty on top of it!
And, of course, optional details are completely optional. If you would like to close out of this letter now and write whatever strikes you, GO FOR IT. I will just go ahead and finish this post so that I can use pieces of this letter next year.
In the most basic sense, feel free to look around my DW account now that you're here; my fic is all posted to my AO3 account, and is also here under the fic tag. My movies tag, books tag, and tv shows tag put together have basically every opinion about media that has passed through my head in at least the last four years.
General Stuff
I love: ladyslash, het, dudeslash, gen, happy or hopeful or at least not rocks-fall-everyone-dies endings, friendship, humor, banter, fond mockery, women having lots of feelings and things to do and talking to each other, unexpected kindness, insecurity, determination, slice-of-life, character studies, introspection, and people trying to do the right thing even when they sometimes fail. I am totally okay with AUs, fork-in-the-road or they're-all-in-high-school, and cliché fic is awesome. Plot or hijinks or action is fine; a quiet moment or small conversation or just a character looking out a window and thinking is also fine.
I have no triggers relating to but probably won't be overly thrilled by: death of a requested character, graphic torture, sexual assault or heavy dub-con, BDSM. (Exceptions here for Talia, if you do want to write about the ending to her storyline, or if you think you might want to write about a very old, thoughtful Irulan on her deathbed.)
Overall, though, what I most want is for you to write a story that a) you really enjoy writing, and b) you really like and are happy with when it's finished. I'm sure there's plenty of things I've forgotten to mention here that I might really love; if you have questions about anything at all, feel free to get in touch with my sister
idriya. We essentially share a brain, she'll be able to tell you anything you need to know.
On to the requests themselves!
Dune (Irulan)
From the signup: Irulan is fascinating to me in bookverse because - particularly in the first book - we see so very little of her, and yet her insights and thoughts and even reminiscences are scattered around throughout the book in the epigraphs. Honestly, I'm interested in just about any part of Irulan's life: her childhood, her young adulthood in the emperor's household, her relationship with her mother or her father's other wives or her siblings/half-siblings, the lead-up to her marriage, her marriage, the aftermath ... I think her earlier life is a bit more of an open space, so that may be more freeing to work with; but pretty much any fic to do with Irulan will make me so, so happy! (If you would like to make use of any additional canon from the SciFi channel's miniseries, feel free; if you've never seen that, ignore this parenthetical completely!)
Other details: I'm going to be upfront here, I have a lot of Irulan feels, but I am very very open to pretty much any interpretation you have of her character! So if you choose to stalk my DW and you see my lone Dune fic where she becomes empress or my massive miniseries!Irulan picspam and you completely disagree with everything I said about or did with Irulan, DON'T PANIC. I know there's a big difference between her role in the miniseries and her role in the bookverse, and this request is bookverse! I am equally interested in her either way, and whatever angle you want to come at her character from is completely fine.
If you have seen the miniseries and want to throw some miniseries canon in there, feel free; but if you haven't, do not worry. The nomination is bookverse and the request is bookverse, and I will be overjoyed at the bookversiest of bookverse stories. Basically I just really like Irulan, and so if you write about Irulan - any Irulan - I will love your story.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire (Audrey, Kida)
From the signup: I know the rules technically insist that if two or more characters are in the signup, they all have to be in the fic; but if you have trouble making it work, I'm telling you right now that you don't have to worry about it. I would love any fic that's about either of these characters - if you can get them in the same place and give me a conversation between them, that's wonderful, but don't feel like you have to! I would also love Audrey's relationship with her sister, or her recruitment to the team, or her interactions with Atlantean technology; I would love Kida and her mother before the sinking of Atlantis, Kida growing up in the midst of the city trying to heal itself afterward, Kida and her father.
Or something completely different that comes to you and won't let go! Anything you write about either or both of them will be totally awesome. (And I love all the characters in this movie, really, so adding other characters or throwing in some ensemble time would be completely fine.)
Other details: I love this movie to a really ridiculous degree; I love the setting and the aesthetic and basically all the characters, so you are really unlikely to go wrong here. I will be happy with matching the movie's kind of shenanigany tone, and I will be happy if you want to try taking things a little more seriously; I will be happy if your story is all about Audrey and I will be happy if your story is just about Kida and I will be happy if they are both in it! If you decide to run with something about Kida and either of her parents, I realize that may well include their canonical deaths - what I hoped to specify in my likely-to-dislike section was that I'd prefer to keep Audrey and Kida alive. But any portion of the movie is totally fair game, as is pre- or post-canon fic. I love Audrey's attitude and Kida's sense of humor and wonder, and basically just anything in this fandom will be so great to read. (And if you'd like to write ladyslash of any rating, feel free! Porn might be a bit tough for me to swallow in this fandom, but if that's what works for you, I won't say no.)
Babylon 5 (Ivanova, Talia)
From the signup: Ivanova! Talia! As above, despite what the actual rules say I am completely okay with fic about either of these characters OR both, so if inspiration for an interaction just isn't coming to you, don't feel like you have to force it. :) Obviously in canon Talia's storyline does not end kindly - I'd love to have a happy fic for Yuletide, but if you're struck by a marvelous idea that touches on what happens to Talia, go for it. And if you aren't sure where to start, optional suggestions are totally optional: anything about these two women making friends, Ivanova's life before B5 or when she first reaches the station, the difficulties and occasional beauties of Talia's abilities ... Pairing fic, friendship fic, or either of these ladies on their own will all make me squee!
Other details: As I noted, I'd love a happy fic - something as simple as one of their first few conversations, a date that neither one of them realizes is a date until after, a quiet little scene from an AU where nothing terrible happens to Talia. But there is also a ton of tempting angst to be mined here, and if you feel inspired by that you should absolutely run with it! If they're both in the story, it would be great to have at least some degree of focus on their interaction with each other, romantic or not; but I love each of them individually, too, and gen is totally okay. (... Sex is okay, too, of course. :D) I'm familiar with the entire arc of the show, so if you'd like to write about Ivanova at any point in canon, you should be good to go. And, seriously, anything about either of them: Ivanova during a battle scene or one of those frustrating diplomatic meetings they have sometimes, Talia before B5 or trying to adjust to life on it. Anything!
I am so pleased we're matched on whatever fandom we're matched on, but don't feel restricted by it - if you're able to get hold of a copy of Dune, or rent Atlantis, or get B5 from Netflix, go for it. If you write a story you love, I will undoubtedly love it also, and I can't wait to have the chance to read it. ♥
Happy Yuletide!
