damkiannaYesterday was pretty awful; I can neither confirm nor deny that I cried a little in my office. But in this particular case, the thing that went wrong at work isn't my fault - I could have fixed it, if I had been paying more attention, but the underlying problem was not with me. So it could have been worse!
In cheerier news, I saw Thor in 3D twice this weekend, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. They did a great job casting; Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), and Jaimie Alexander (Sif) are all seriously unfairly hot, and Idris Elba (Heimdall) was excellent. (They did not use the Norse-gods-are-real theme to make this movie completely white, which was a pleasant surprise.) It was funny, which means I was halfway to sold on it the first time I laughed; and there were some great comics/in-verse nods in there ("is this another one of Stark's things?", Donald Blake MD, etc.). I adore Jane and Darcy both - this movie had four women with names! Two pairs who talked to each other! One pair that Bechdel-passed! I concede that the bar is pretty low, but that's kind of amazing for a comics movie. And SIF, homg. SIF WILL STAB YOU IN THE THROAT WITH A GIANT SPEAR. \o/ That shot was awesome, even if the Destroyer did recover after.
After two viewings, I have to admit that I'm still a little confused about Loki. I can't decide whether he was supposed to seem like he was kind of flailing his unhappy way through the plot, or whether they intended on a clear thread of Loki likes to play jokes that include letting frost giants into Asgard --> Thor is banished and this is Loki's chance to prove that he is awesome --> Loki finds out he is a frost giant --> Loki decides he will be awesome and prove that he is unaffected by his frost giantitude by double-crossing Laufey and murdering every frost giant in the universe. Because, if Option 2, I think they cut some scenes or something; it didn't quite all link together. :/ The transition to "actually this movie is about how genocide is wrong!" was a little muddled.
BUT. I liked that it was about Thor learning not to be a dick - I knew the hammer wasn't going to come the first time he touched it, and it didn't and that was awesome. His romance with Jane was ... not terribly substantive, but WHATEVER SHE'S GOING TO INVENT WORMHOLE TECH. :D There may have been a veeeeery brief moment where I sort of wanted Jane to catch the hammer, but that's okay. And I actually did like the end - it felt like kind of a reversal. Thor is the one stuck in the tower, and Jane's hacking her way through the brambles. Clearly that "princess" line from Laufey was actually foreshadowing. :D Good thing I like it, because I'm probably going to see it at least one more time - the first time was me andidriya, the second was me and my dad, so my mom still hasn't seen it yet.

This time there's no reason except time-management and my girlfriend's recent obsession with boxing things/our general difficulty in getting our asses to the cinema that's kept me from seeing it yet. (Seriously, she gets anxious if she doesn't box something every day. We're not moving for another two and a half months.)
