The TV is working again! I think I'm getting whiplash or something, this is ridiculous. In a good way, because we got it going in time to watch Prince Caspian again. :D

I now know more than I ever have before about exorcism and how to make holy water - my mother, a lapsed Catholic but usually the authority I go to about these things, didn't know it, but there is apparently at least some salt in holy water. The things you learn when you are trying to write Newsies fic based on a "possession" prompt. **hands** I also realized, as part of the same learning process, that I seem to have lost my book on angel magic; so I ordered a new copy, which means I'll find the old one any minute now. Also, splurged on a tablet. /o\

That experience also reminded me that I need to get cracking on Christmas. I am pants at gifts unless I start brainstorming reeeeeeeally early, and I feel like I should get something for my supervisor, too. Nothing super personalized, I really don't know her that well, but candy or something.

Also, went to see Deathly Hallows Part I. Overall, I am pleased - the movies have worked out really well for me in general, which is to say that the first few stuck closely to the early books, which were my favorites, and the more recent ones have deviated a little more, which is fine, because I liked the last three books a touch less. I did roll my eyes a bit at Harry and Hermione dancing to the radio, but it was kind of a cute scene; the same cannot be said of the half-porn macking of Locket!Harry and Locket!Hermione, which was just a tad excessive. D: I was making basically the exact same face as Ron during that part. Also, the Deluminator thing did not make any more sense when Ron had to say it aloud, unfortunately. That part was just a little too silly for me in the books, and it was still a little too silly in the movie. :P

But, whatever, I still adore HP. LUNA! NEVILLE! HERMIONE! Hearts forever. Luna's dad was brilliant, the torture scene with Bellatrix was excellently done and very unsettling, and the mini-movie about the three brothers was absolutely stunning. For a minute, I almost forgot we were in the middle of an entirely different movie; it was gorgeous stuff, and the style was just incredible.

Obviously, they made some adjustments to the story, but I very much approved of all the ones I can remember. They cut the Camping Trip from Hell down like whoa, which was GREAT, because I was not looking forward to suffering through that again; and the progression from learning about RAB to getting Kreacher to find Mundungus to breaking into the Ministry felt much clearer and more connected to me. The whole Ministry break-in was pretty awesome - the adult actors were great at still seeming like the trio (though, of course, the dubbed voices helped). And oh, the shivers of loathing I got just looking at Umbridge again. She was eminently hateable, as always.

Bill was mad hot, and it was great to see Fleur again - the scene with all the polyjuiced Harrys was awesome. And I have to admit, I kind of liked the zip-up and macking with Ginny; okay, it was a little awkward, but they played the awkwardness well at the end there, with George smirking at them and everything. It was cute.

... I've kind of been going backwards, here, so fast-forward back to the later bits. The doe was great; Harry was still an idiot for jumping into the frozen pool; the Malfoy Manor scenes were just right. Narcissa may not look the way I envisioned Narcissa, but she does act the way I envision Narcissa, which I think is more important. And Tom Felton is so very good at looking reluctant and unhappy and Dracoesque.

I find movie!Dobby kind of annoying, generally speaking, but he was actually pretty cute when he was helping Kreacher with Mundungus, and the part with him at Malfoy Manor was funny in several places; so I was sorry to see him go, in the end. His small speech about being a free elf was really rather lovely.

All in all, it was the same sort of mix as the sixth movie, but I think the tone was a little more even. The sixth movie felt like half of a funny movie and half of a sad movie; this one was more all one movie that had both funny bits and sad bits. Looking forward to the second half, and expecting MOAR NEVILLE, PLS.
