NaNoWriMo! There was never a moment where I quite forgot, but it somehow managed to sneak up on me anyway. I'm going to do my best to get the same number of words down on ItO every day as I write for my NaNo, although who knows whether I'll be able to keep that up all month. D:
And yesterday was the second episode of Sherlock.
So, wow, I liked that one way less than the first. I mean, there were some decent exchanges, some reasonably funny parts; but two of the parts that were meant to be funniest were reliant on Holmes being attacked by violent PoC in stereotypical costumes. :/ It was like they were playing Racist Asian Stereotype bingo, or something: graceful quiet pretty Chinese woman, drug smuggling, circus, dragon lady, jade artifact. Check, check, check. Blegh.
I also didn't care for it because Sherlock and John made two giant, incredibly stupid mistakes. Which I could have handled, if there had been more acknowledgement that that was what they were, but instead it was still all about how AMAZING Sherlock is.
First mistake: leaving the woman who just told you she got a death threat alone in a big dark back room in a museum you KNOW the killer just entered. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. I can sort of buy Sherlock running off, I guess, because he's more concerned about solving the mystery than he is with people; although I still think it would make more sense to stay there. (I mean, you don't know where in the museum the killer is, but you do know who he's trying to kill, so ... stick with her, and you're almost guaranteed to run into him. Ta-da.) But I can't understand why John didn't even try to find a way to keep her safe when he went haring off after Holmes. "Stay right here" doesn't even count, saying that to somebody in that situation is like signing their death warrant. I would have given a LOT to see Donovan yell at them for being so incredibly careless.
And second mistake: kneeling down to untie Sarah's hands instead of MOVING THE FUCKING CHAIR. Or, barring that, just tipping her over - I get that she might not have been a fan, but Sherlock's not supposed to be the kind of person who cares what other people think when he's sure he knows best, and he totally had enough time to make sure she wouldn't break an arm. On another show, I'd let this go more easily, because I'll buy the argument that whoever's involved just didn't think of it at the time; but the whole point of this show is that Sherlock is a ridiculous genius who spends all his genius time geniusing. So the whole thing just seemed silly to me - the music and the camerawork and everything were all trying to build the tension, homg will Sarah get shot, and I'm sitting there like ... WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST DRAG HER A FOOT TO THE RIGHT.
I am given to understand the third ep is better, but seriously. That was ridiculous. Yeesh.
And now back to my NaNo. D:
