Yesterday was quite a day. I left in the morning for Audiology, having lingered just long enough to watch B wake up and discover that it was snowing outside (she loves it when it snows), and when I came back, the door to our room was open and the recycling bin was out in the hall. Hmm, says I to myself, this is unusual, and so I was in some sense braced for it when I came level with our doorway and discovered that the floor was covered in water, and B was hoping desperately that I was the clean-up crew.

Our shower drain's been getting kind of sluggish lately, and evidently, this particular morning, it had been too much for B to bear. She had gotten the plunger, as the sheet on our bathroom wall recommends, and had plungered the shower drain with the shower running, as said Authoritative Sheet also recommends.

What the Authoritative Sheet does not tell you is that the shower drain is linked at a relatively nearby pipe with the drain in the middle of the bathroom floor.

So, B plungered the shower drain, which protested by hurling its contents ... up the floor drain. \o/ There was water all over about half the room, which thankfully was not the half with either electronics or our rugs in it, mixed with some kind of very black sediment. Fortunately, nothing involved was connected to the toilet, or it could all have been far, far more disgusting. In the end, I skipped World Lit to wait for the maintenance guys, who brought along a lovely wet-vac and some sanitizer, and now our bathroom is most likely the cleanest it has ever been.

Today has been much less interesting so far. Turned in my film journal and took the final quiz in Human Cultures, which means that class is officially over as far as I'm concerned, since there's no final exam. The World Lit final is tomorrow at 11:30, and then I don't have another exam until Cog-Neuro on Monday afternoon. w00t.

I have to admit, I kind of like exam week. Yes, there's studying, but if you pace it right, you end up with so much free time. And it doesn't hurt that my mom sent me a package full of candy to help me through - also doesn't hurt that B is leaving sometime next Tuesday, while I am not leaving until next Friday. ^^

Which reminds me. In the continuing saga of cluelessness on the part of B, we have reached a new stage. B is relaxing her stranglehold on Italian, which thankfully means no more rape-is-funny movies, but she has exchanged it for a resurgence in her old obsession with Bollywood. I love watching Bollywood movies with her, I love the dancing and the music and the usually-quite-adorable stories they tell. What I do not love is that, in addition to speaking with an Italian accent "without knowing [she's] doing it", she now often puts on an Indian accent - again, "without knowing [she's] doing it". She'll watch two Bollywood movies in a row and put one of her scarves over her hair, and say that she feels "so Indian"; her normal style of dancing to Western music is really actually very Indian also!

Of course, the scarf-over-hair thing prompts more than just stupid comments about her level of Indian-ness. She was trying to figure out how to wrap it the other day so that she could keep her hair dry in the snow: she did it one way, and commented that it made her feel "exotic" and Middle-Eastern; wrapping it another way, with part of it over the lower half of her face, prompted her to tell me that she now felt "oppressed". She put her scarf on again this morning, and asked me whether she looked more Soviet or more Muslim; I told her that all she looked like to me was a person with a scarf over their hair, just like anybody else would if they had a scarf over their hair, but I don't think she got the point. If only I were more articulate.

Anyway, I should stop griping and start studying for World Lit. \o/
