Yuletide Reveals!

Snuck up on me, as they so often do, but in my defense this holiday season was somehow extra discombobulating? Two weird half-weeks in a row is so disorienting, I've totally lost track of what day it is. /o\
BUT ANYWAY. The point is that I received a delightful gift from
redleather for my Pride & Prejudice & Zombies request, which is wonderfully in the spirit of the canon and somehow managed to hit on at least half a dozen of my prompts and likes in exactly 1350 words, and I enjoyed it very much:
Master Hua's One-foot Punch to the Chest (1350 words)
Fandom: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy
Characters: Elizabeth Bennet, Jane Bennet, Fitzwilliam Darcy
Additional Tags: when you love someone in spite of yourself, Canon-Typical Violence, Elizabeth-centric, That moment on Hingham Bridge
Summary: Miss Elizabeth Bennet, nearly one and twenty years of age, had suffered through many indignities, both physical and social, in her short time thus far on God’s green — if somewhat forsaken — earth.
BUT the amazing time I had this Yuletide definitely doesn't end there, because I was lucky enough to match none other than
sandrine/
Sandrine this year, after having finally watched The Firm (TV) in time to offer it! So I had an absolute blast writing her a gift:
under the gun (all in) (20771 words)
Fandom: The Firm (TV)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Mitch McDeere/Joey Morolto Jr.
Characters: Mitch McDeere, Joey Morolto Jr., Abby McDeere, Louis Coleman
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Canon-Typical Violence, Uneasy Allies, Developing Relationship, Bad Decisions, Drunk Sex, Antagonism, Trust Issues, Forced Cohabitation, Kidnapping, Loyalty, Protectiveness, Mild Hurt/Comfort
Summary: The safehouse was fine.
Or, well. There was nothing wrong with it, at least. It was a nice, nondescript house in a quiet neighborhood, thoroughly unremarkable except for the part where the blinds stayed drawn 24/7. It was comfortable enough.
None of that could stop Mitch from hating it anyway. But at least there was a silver lining, petty though it might be: Joey hated it, too.
... which may have gotten a little out-of-hand, I admit, but the request and likes were thoroughly irresistible, and also somehow a plot happened. *hands*
I also managed to get it together enough to write some treats:
That Which Walks Unseen (6753 words)
Fandom: The Bone Key - Sarah Monette
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Kyle Murchison Booth/John Pelham Ratcliffe
Characters: Kyle Murchison Booth, John Pelham Ratcliffe
Additional Tags: Possession, Psychological Horror, POV First Person, Yuletide Treat
Summary: I had not expected to see John Pelham Ratcliffe again.
For
Jain, because it was about time I reread The Bone Key, and even though I'm not great with horror, I just can't resist giving it a shot now and then. :D
to fight aloud (4040 words)
Fandom: Dark Matter (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Two | Portia Lin, Five | Das, Four | Ryo Tetsuda, Wexler (Dark Matter)
Additional Tags: Hints of Nyx Harper/Two | Portia Lin, Hallucinations, Alien Invasion, Post-Canon
Summary: Two is lost. (Or: one way S4 could have started, if there had been one.)
For
alamorn, who always has such excellent Dark Matter requests, and yet somehow I've never managed to write them a gift before! THIS WAS THE YEAR, I told myself, and lucky me, the request this time around was every excuse I could have asked for to write the Two-centric post-cliffhanger followup of my heart. \o/
winter, passing (8592 words)
Fandom: Dark Matter - Michelle Paver
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Gus Balfour/Jack Miller
Characters: Jack Miller (Dark Matter), Gus Balfour
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Fix-It, Post-Canon, Pining, Recovery, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Closure, POV First Person, Yuletide Treat
Summary: Jack doesn't let go of Gus in the water. He tries something else instead. (Or: survival, and what happens after.)
One of these days,
Mimm is finally going to get sick of me following them around writing fix-it fic. But in the meantime, here is my longest-yet EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FINE, GODDAMMIT Dark Matter story. (I enjoyed the book, I really did! But man, that ending just screams for AUs.)
better cheated to the last (3343 words)
Fandom: The Sting (1973)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Henry Gondorff/Johnny Hooker
Characters: Henry Gondorff, Johnny Hooker
Additional Tags: Trust Issues, Light Angst, Rescue, Mild Hurt/Comfort, Post-Canon, Yuletide Treat
Summary: He probably should have known right then, the moment he saw them. Down the street some distance, crowding around the mouth of a narrow little alley. The way they were standing said trouble, sure enough: looming, tense shoulders and jutted-out chins, brief sharp movements of their hands and arms.
He should have known trouble meant Johnny.
For
blueteak, who could not have aimed more squarely for my id than by prompting for Henry roughing Johnny up for a con, and h/c. ♥_♥
falling is like this (4402 words)
Fandom: Trapeze (1956)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Tino Orsini/Mike Ribble
Characters: Tino Orsini, Mike Ribble
Additional Tags: Angst with a Happy Ending, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Post-Canon Fix-It, Misunderstandings, Yuletide Treat
Summary: He'd come to a stop a bit to one side of the flow of traffic, since he was far from the only person walking along the Place de la Concorde at this hour—far from the only person who'd paused to look out at the river, either, for that matter. As if from a distance, the sound of hurrying steps came toward him, and he eased out of the way further still; somebody in a rush, sure, and wanting to pass by everybody walking slower, and here he was standing in their road. "Pardon," he said, "j'm'excuse," keeping his head ducked low, wiping absently at his wet cheeks.
Except the footsteps didn't keep on. They scraped to a halt right there by him. And Mike knew, knew, even without looking up, and covered his face with his hand, twisting away, wishing for one grim fierce second that he'd thrown himself in the goddamn river without wasting any time.
"Hey, Mike," Tino said.
For
Dorinda, who of course is the only reason I even knew this movie was a thing. Fix-it was kind of a theme for me this year, and I'm not sure I've ever watched anything that begged for a fix-it more than Trapeze, so of course I couldn't resist!
I left a spasm of hurried comments before author reveals, but I'm still hoping to keep working my way through a few more fandoms, since I never do manage to finish browsing the archive in a timely fashion. /o\ :D But I had a really wonderful time this year, and I'm feeling weirdly good about 2019. ♥
