we have ideas yet that we haven't tried.

Okay, so matching my NaNo word-for-word with ItO is not going to happen. Long shot anyway. But switching off between the two seems to be doing wonders, as long as I make sure I stay on my NaNo for enough total writing time to get to the word goal for the day. \o/
The NaNo's awful, obviously, because I've barely planned it and I'm still shuffling names and character attributes, and I'm sure it's going to get horrid and preachy and anvilicious because I have ~thoughts~ about the genre. But! So far, I'm enjoying the writing, and it's pacifying my mother, who, despite losing a couple small arguments with me about the merits of fanfic, still nags me about getting something original written. (Besides the dwarf pirate captain story, which ... still isn't done. I should really go back and clean that up some.)
More importantly, though, Hawaii 5-0. I cannot seem to muster up deep thoughts about this show while I'm watching it, no matter how much attention I pay to it; mostly my brain is just going, "Kono! Ooh, the seer lady fromThe Scorpion King that movie I definitely have never watched! Kono! Steve! Danny! Chin! Kono!"
But looking back, there was a bunch of stuff I liked about this episode. Kelly Hu was a treat, and she makes me think they didn't just get Grace Park, check off the "include WoC" box, and leave it at that, which is great; I hope she shows up again. Adam Beach gave me mild casting whiplash, since I'm more used to him as the snarky cop on SVU than anything else, but he was excellent, and I am SO GLAD he didn't do it. I do think the whole evil-Russian-ex-husband thing was a little ridiculous, but I forgive them because Steve took off his shirt.
I'm also glad they at least mentioned Kono being a woman as possible motivation for giving her the kid, even though the purported actual reason didn't make a whole lot of sense, and I adored her scenes with the kid - "because it makes my tongue purple", the self-portraits, everything. Parking the car in front of the plane was also ridiculous, but it did look kind of cool, and, whatever, Hawaii 5-0 is awesome, the end.
I can't really muster coherent commentary on Steve and Danny - all the staring, "are you talking to your wife", I just can't even. **hands** But everybody in the world has talked about it plenty already, so. Basically, ♥ EVERYTHING.
I also finally got a movie I had not watched before from Netflix, which was Newsies - yes, that musical where tiny!Batman sings about Santa Fe. I had never seen it before yesterday, despite having run across The Refuge and devoured everything in it several years ago. And ... wow. Terrible timing, because the absolute last thing I need right now is a new fandom, but that movie is ridiculous, in the best possible way. Oh, god, the dancing.
I am bummed about Sarah - I love that she punched that one Delancey in the face, but she turned suddenly useless about ten seconds after, and she has about a dozen lines in the whole movie. :/ Aside from the facepunch, she really is there just to give Jack's lines about never having had anybody care about him before an anchor that isn't David. And that's about it - which makes Jack's lines overtly stupid, because he literally talks to Sarah about twice. I mean, it was nice to see that she was there for the secret printing and the distribution afterward, but ... she still didn't say anything. Of course, that does give you a lot of space to explore in, but still. The movie only gives her about half a personality. :P Which my brain interprets as a request to write a badass reporter AU, of course.
Jack and David, on the other hand, were even more ridiculous than I was expecting. The amount of gropage and staring and shenaniganry was UNBELIEVABLE. I didn't quite believe the pairing manifesto when it told me Jack said, "I have family here," and then beamed up at David at the end, but he seriously does. And the fire escape scene - it really does look like David's dad is interrupting something. The argument, when Jack turns scab to save David - the alleyway, for god's sake. I actually had a Newsies dream last night, which is the shortest transition ever from the initial media to my subconscious. (Although, granted, the fact that I read the fics probably gave it a bit of a head start.) And Christian Bale's New York accent is just precious.
But! Now I should get back to work. :D
