Through celli's post: o look, pro author fail.

Not a week ago, I was just thinking I had to get around to reading some Elizabeth Moon. Now, suddenly, I'm not really feeling it. Funny how that works.

In less srs business, the Covert Affairs two-hour finale. I ... can't decide what I think. On the one hand, Annie had some moments of distinct kickass; I really, really liked the lady in the first hour and I am SO GLAD they didn't kill her; and, of course, Auggie was awesome. And I found myself feeling very fond about Joan and Arthur, by the end. Take that, President Logan, and that, Evil Administrative People Who Don't Like Arthur.

On the other hand, I still feel pretty meh about Ben Mercer. I think part of the problem is that I was never fully sold on the relationship between him and Annie, and practically the entire second hour really, really relied on that for its mileage. I am SO TIRED of all these ~significant pans~ over those bracelets. :P And I feel like the writers are relying on all the other characters to keep reminding me how SRSLY IMPORTANT THEIR LOVE IS, OKAY. Maybe a lighter touch with the same general plotline would have worked better for me? I don't know. I'm assuming the ending was supposed to upset me, and mostly I just feel vexed that they've given themselves an out if they want to keep dragging out the mystery of Ben Mercer's mysterious motivations of mystery a little more.

I also find it kind of hilarious that they gave that one guy the line about Annie being prettier than Jai. Look, Piper Perabo is pretty hot, but, uh, have you seen Sendhil Ramamurthy? Mohinder might have been kind of an idiot a lot of the time, but one thing he wasn't lacking was pretty.

But! I would watch Auggie and Liza talk to each other all day; I just hope it turns out that Liza's using President Logan, and not the other way around. And I guess I'm glad they're not still having Joan and Arthur use Annie without Annie knowing why. I'm just ... kind of sick of her fitness for missions being determined by how Ben Mercer loves her and he's important, not by, you know, her actual skills. :P I'll keep watching, but between it and Warehouse 13, I think Warehouse 13 is winning.

Also, I did a crazy thing and ordered a new computer. I rationalized it a lot, and the rationalizations are all true and logical, but mostly, it comes down to how utterly tired I am of having my current computer's shitty graphics card determine what games I can play. /o\ I'm so shallow. So that should come sometime next week, which gives me time to come up with a name. The computer plus the dentist thing means no more frivolities (well, aside from a birthday gift for my mother, but that's not quite in the same category of unnecessary expenditure as stuff for myself) until after a couple more paychecks, and then nothing but donations until Christmas rolls around. I am Gibraltar. [/Mr. Feeny]
