ice-cream stand oases.

It has been raining for like four days. OKAY, WEATHER, YOU GOT ME. **weeps** Now give me back the suuuuuuuun. (Okay, so there was sunshine for about half an hour this afternoon. INSUFFICIENT.)

Yesterday's Netflix: The Snow Queen (2002). My overwhelming feeling, upon completing this movie, was what. what was that. o.O

It was Hallmark, so of course the acting was mostly adorabad - except for Bridget Fonda, who seemed like she was really enjoying herself. Things I did not like first: Kira Clavell is gorgeous, but wtf was that random Orientalist racefail interlude in the summer kingdom? Through that entire part it was incredibly hard to make my face do anything but this: D:! I mean, I guess I'm glad not all the seasons were white chicks, but yikes. That was awful. I also want to know who thought it was a good idea for Gerda to embark on her journey to save Kai by trying to kill herself, because, um, no. Serious no. Fridged mom = no, evil seductress vs. "good girl" = no, victory by telling a badass queen she's "just [not a queen]" and having her carried out, fainting, by the Nice Guy™ polar bear = no. NO NO NO. D:

Things I liked: um. The Robber Girl was pretty awesome, and there were definite femslash undertones to, like, every conversation she had with Gerda (until Gerda punched her in the face, I grant you). In theory, having Gerda travel through the other seasons to reach Winter was a pretty cool idea. And there were a couple moments where they managed to actually creep me out - Spring was the freakiest ever, Gerda writing a note to herself ("I DON'T BELONG HERE"), looking for a place to hide it, and finding like three others she'd already hidden was fucking spooky. And finding the boots Kai left for her, all wrapped up like a present, and then opening the note to find that all it said was "HELP ME"? They had me with that until they ended it by cutting to a ridiculously close shot of Gerda's eyes widening - WIDENING, DO YOU GET IT, THIS IS CREEPY - which ruined it pretty thoroughly. :/ So that had, like, a plot outline and twenty minutes from an awesome movie, and then there was the rest of it. **hands**

In ficcier news, I tripped and wrote 3k of Trudy/Grace vaguely based off one of [personal profile] ashen_key's prompts from [personal profile] such_heights's female character trope fest, so ... maybe I really will be okay signing up for [community profile] thelittlebang and working on LttE at the same time. (Although it isn't really meeting the minimum that worries me; it's actually managing to wrap up the story by the deadline. :P) I still have some time before signups close, so. We'll see.

Why does everything I write end up so long?!

Oh god, the Snow Queen.

I got that movie after seeing a nice AMV someone had made of it, and man, was I disappointed in what I got. I remember it dragging on interminably in the beginning and being very dumb in the rest of the movie, but fortunately I have forgotten the details.
